Any fans? He does have a tendency to pick the most famous songs by bands rather than the most interesting, meaning that some of the eps (like Pantera's) just aren't very, well, interesting. But some of them are really great, and if you're looking for composition or production inspiration, it's a good place to go, plus he's done loads of classic rock, hard rock, prog, and more mainstream end of metal.

Anyway, the latest ep is on Nirvana, which is what triggered me to create the thread, since there was some recent rehashing of absurd statements about their ability as a band:

Was recommended these by a friend a few months back but completely forgot to check it out.  Will give a few a go this evening, he's meant to be excellent.

I've watched a few of those. I'll be interested in that Nirvana one for definite I'm gone on a fair buzz of them lately. Can't say enough good things about those wonderful young gentlemen.

Edit: Yeah that was great. I really enjoyed where he was playing out the vocal melody from the verse. Must check out the On A Plain one he was on about. Have to make a mention of the solo as well. I've always thought Nirvana had brilliant solos but I hardly ever hear anyone going on about them. They really were inimitable.

Very informative series, always amazing to hear him solo out the small little overdubs and extras in a song you would never notice on the surface. His breakdown of Chop Suey by System of a Down when he solos out the piano and strings section under the last chorus is amazing to hear, it's like a whole other song that's hiding beneath the main instruments

Had a binge of his stuff at the beginning of the year. Must go back to him as I enjoyed everything I watched. Very informative.

His videos on string guages and how quantizing kills groove and feel are great too.

Never saw one of his videos that I didn't like come to think of it.

Only been watching recently, pretty good overall. The korn one is quite interesting actually, the different shifts between grunge / nu-metal.

Pure, unadulterated genius.

This vid with Butch Vig is a great breakdown too.

Anyone who has sung/sang in a studio knows that harmonies can be a tricky one. Supposedly Cobain used get them all in one go. He was operating on levels we can barely imagine.
