Any recommendations for some of the lesser known 90s Florida bands or albums?

Have you heard Imperial Doom by Monstrosity?

Yep I've heard all of Monstrosity's stuff. Brilliant debut. Thanks for the recommendation .

Maybe try The Key from Nocturnus?

It's kinda hard to pick a lesser known one from that scene because 99% of the bands ended up getting signed! And I don't think it was as big a scene as we all think it was either.

I guess maybe Acheron "Lex Talionis" and  Equinox "Return to Mystery" are the two lesser known ones that spring to mind, the former being one of the few who stayed on a more..eh.. "modest" label rather than NB/RR/Earache, the latter because it was a few years after the boom (1996) and is this weird meeting point of Florida Death Metal and Black Metal.

You could maybe count Exmortis? They didn't start in Florida but moved there and were certainly underground stalwarts in the tape trading era who never got their due or got a full length out. But the demos and "Fade From Reality" ep were great , I'm sure they've been reissued

Oh actually Brutality's "Screams Of Anguish" is probably what you're after if you want the classic Morrisound thing

I was about to post Incubus/Opprobrium but pretty sure they were from Louisiana?

Solstice, more Death/Thrash than full-on death metal. Two of the guys went on the join Malevolent Creation.

Their first two albums are worth a listen, the more recent ones are shite.

Diabolic had one or two ok releases (more 2000s than 90s though)

FUCKING HELL HOW DID I FORGET ABOUT DVC???

Yeah, Darth Vader's Church - these guys are the most underrated of the Florida bunch, and a long time favourite of mine since hearing "Resume Aggression" on John Peel  when I was about 12 - two albums, "Descendent Upheaval" and "Molecular Shadow". I highly recommend both of them. They're a bit dirtier than the usual Florida bunch, leaning more towards some weird midpoint between "Leprosy", Slaughter/Repulsion in terms of vocals and guitar tone and the early Earache bunch. Fucking genius band, sorely in need of rediscovery. Weirdly they were one of the first wave as well, think the first album was recorded in 88/89?? Released a year or so later.

another demo band as well - Astaroth's "Lost State of Dreams" was a bit of a lost gem

Definitely a better known band but it's a shame Disincarnate only did one album

You're probably already familiar with Angelcorpse, another band who relocated to Florida. Hammer of Gods, Exterminate, The Inexorable are all essential albums. They also have an excellent compilation called Iron Blood & Blasphemy.

Must check out DVC!,never heard them before!.
Yeah Angelcorpse are essential!,love all their stuff especially The Inexorable!

Thanks guys, Looking forward to checking some of these out.  I think it was seeing Obituary support Slayer recently and also watching the new Chuck Schuldiner documentary that has me on a big Death Metal trip.

Diabolic- Supreme Evil is a ripper.

Resurrection were another. Very much in the style of the early Malevolent Creation stuff.

Resurrection, can't believe I've never heard them before. That album is fucking quality. I'll have to invest in a copy in the new year!
