There seems to be something in the water in Belgium the past while with the mighty Possession possibly leading the charge in terms of international exposure.

Perverted Ceremony and Moenen of Xezbeth are two closely linked projects (linked to each other, not Possession) that popped up around the same time,  both utterly primitive and nasty but maybe taking slightly different approaches to their filth.  PC are more indebted to Beherit with MoX nodding to early Samael with more prominent use of keyboards in the mix.  Two really interesting bands if nasty,  harsh yet catchy filth is your game.

There is also an exciting small label operating there called Medieval Prophecy Records that released a 7" by Moenen of Xezbeth and has been putting out demos by an even more crude black metal entity called Forbidden Temple who might be of interest to anyone into the other bands mentioned.

A number of the Possession lads have another project on the go called Dikasterion and while their demo is good,  it sounds a bit too close to what Possession are at right now, but it'll be interesting to see how the two bands develop and if they begin to diverge stylistically over time.

A lot of activity coming from a small handful of dudes. Anyone else keeping an eye on these bands?

Just finished listening to some stuff by Perverted Ceremony and Moenen of Xezbeth. Fairly decent. They seem to be doing the whole "old school low quality" thing pretty well. Need to check out the other bands you mentioned when I get a chance.

Moenen is one of the few Black Metal things I've heard and liked recently, very much reminds me of the kind of shit you'd read about in "The Oath" or something back in the day. Recommend me more gloomy lo fi slow black metal with spooky keyboards. Preferably of the non NS kind.

Both are utterly class. Is it the same 2 lads in both bands? The cd versions of both recent full-lengths come with the demos included which is handy. Id probably reach for the MoX material more often but both are great.

I've been spinning Moenen of Xezbeth's Ancient Spell lately, it's a ripper... Dikasterion's demo is great too, although I find it a bit too similar to Possession. They have just recorded a 7" so I hope more of its own stands out in the new songs. I haven't given Perverted Ceremony the same attention though...

Love the Ancient Spell cover... clearly inspired on Jacula's "Tardo pede in magiam versus" artwork and "In cauda semper stat venenum" lay out.

I ordered the Heinous demo last night from MPR, along with the Prophets of Doom demo (members of Proclamation I think). Heinous sounds especially savage and,  like Dikasterion, sound somewhat endebted to Possession. Not sure who is involved or if there is a connection but it sounds really good.

Big fan of Perverted Ceremony, Moenen of Xezbeth and Heinous here in Casa Skippy. Not too gone on the Dikasterion....  It's the drummer of Possession in Dikasterion and also the lad who drummed for Proclamation drums in Prophets of Doom....like what samples I heard of them so far, waiting on a pack from NWN! with the demo in it...

You may also try listening to COMPLOT! from Canada then... new band but same Blasphemy-oriented stuff, just with a bit more originality to the riffs than POD.

New Abysmal Lord EP is decent too.

Never heard of COMPLOT! but they sound promising. Cheers.

I received the new  Forbidden Temple demo this week and there's a song called Blasphemous Howling on it but because of the font used it reads as Blasphemous Bowling! Gave me a little laugh. It sounds like an Anal Cunt album title.

Finally listening to the Heinous demo after Eion McLove mentioned it but just been put off after they blatantly use one of Darkthrone's most iconic riffs from "Hans siste vinter"... they just play faster. Not a bad band but a riff like that just doesn't go unnoticed.

Naughty naughty.  I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive but I'll compare and contrast when it does.

Went to make a thread about them but found this one.

Whatever happened to Moenen of Xezbeth, been listening to them a lot the last week.

New album or EP was announced in 2020 or 2021 but hasn't been anymore updates since then.
