The first pink gig I was at was the Striknien DC/ Monkhouse split release gig in the Ormond in 96. Stomach, Skint and Nappyrash played too if I remember correctly.  The mid- late 90s was savage for punk gigs.  I went to loads up in Slattery's back then.

I was at that myself, great night. Have the CD around somewhere. Slattery's was great for gigs alright, was at a great one there for a Ruts tribute CD release. Anyone else brave The Chinaman back in the day?

went most weeks saw some amazing gigs there and it was a great place to drink, loved the place. The fox and pheasant had some amazing gigs too. Where are punk gigs happening now in town?

Dropdead twice on Francis Street seems to have fair few punk gigs.

Thanks, I'm going to start heading back into more gigs

Anyone into Knifed? Mero from the Secret book and record shop/Rejected Records band. Pretty vicious hardcore in the day, also put out stuff by Monkhouse, Scientific Bong, Bastard Youth etc . This is EireCore!

Yep. I worked in the Rejected shop and helped put most of those  records together. Filled in on bass for Knifed once or twice too early on.

Gout were my introduction to the local hc scene when I was 16.

I  presume people here know Disguise?Ex-Zom/Vircolac  doing their last gig next month.

Definitely more of a hardcore thank punk person (I fucking hate Oi)so I've little to offer..I guess locally The Slua and Grit fit the kind of thing Andy wants maybe.

Other great Irish bands were, Jackbeast, Running riot, pink turds in space, Stomach, The Blue Babies, Brinskill Bomb Beat and I am sure there are many many more I can't think of right now

Other good bands I would listen to regulalry Oi Polloi, GBH, Was Tyler, Peter and the test tube babies, Bleeding rectum, Chaos UK, Conflict, The Damned, Discharge, Poison girls, SLF.

Jack beast were incredible but musically 100% not for this thread.  Think I posted about them in the Noise Rock threas

I dont know man they played an awful lot of punk gigs, I think it would be fairly subjective really

Skint & Stagnation were good back in the day, and I remember enjoying Hellvision. A shortlived band called Genital Mishap also entertained, I think I have their demo in a box in the attic.

In general terms sure,Id agree..in terms of this thread it's not subjective at all. Read the first post. A specific style is mentioned. Jackbeast are not that style sonically in any way shape or form.

Gout really shouldn't be here either for the same reason. They sounded more like early Prong.

Skint and stagnation were class,  Mero used to have a band called Dr Shitface,

This is a good blog for checking out Irish punk bands and bands around at that time,. I found it ages ago and honestly it brought me right back to the time of parties on Hill street and jumping around the Fox and Pheasant

Gout were a punk hardcore band, their album Mr Wonderfull is 100% punk and hardcore IMO, as well as their 7" for what its worth (that's the name of the 7", not me being a bollix  :) )

Jackbeast I always include in the punk category but I meant subjective from my point of view. Every time I saw them live they were playing gigs with the steam pig, cheapskate, bambi and a load of other bands

They also did a split release with spithead in 96 who were a ska punk band, so just from my point of view I always regard them as punks. Im just throwing stuff out there for the poster that he might like, that's all. Not looking to define genres.

Nice one, some good stuff there.

I'll aware of that era of Irish bands as I went to loads of punk gigs back then but Pentagrimes is right,  it's not what I'm asking for.  I'm looking for new bands that as playing quality oi and street punk, or stuff like Striknien whatever their style was.
