Some tasty bass playing on it too.

Spot on with that, Chris's vocals are nasty throughout - he's almost abandoned the more guttural style. Throatsaw especially is indicative of that, really caustic. And you're right about the bass, some of the inventive playing elevates the music. There's parts in that track where the bass is almost Steve Harris like.

Elsewhere it's got everything you'd expect from an Autopsy album, the riffs just seem to be there this time. Fourth listen in and everything's sticking. The intro to the title track reminds me of Mental Funeral type material - all good!

Yeah after a wee bit of time with this I have to say I'm really enjoying it, probably their best since Macbre Eternal (which I loved).

I see their bassist is also the other half of Static Abyss with Chris, so they obviously have a good working relationship.

Also had a wee peruse of Metal Archives (as I usually do when sitting down to a band for the evening), and spotted that Danny Corales is 63! I'll be lucky not to be wearing incontinence nappies at that age, nevermind writing and recording banging death metal

Out of interest, has anyone ever listened to Shitfun? And is it any good?

Love the first two obviously, and Mental Funeral is a top 3 DM album for me... But I could never bring myself to listen to Shitfun just based on how literally shit the album cover is.

Yeah I love it, a really nasty sounding record. I think there's 20+ songs on it so it's a little uneven in places but I'd rate it over most of the reunion records

I don't know that album at all either and for the exact same reasons

agreed. I think the material before reunion is classic. That isn't to say they haven't released some great material since. Gotta see them live again. They sound fucking huge!
