I'm listening to Liar of Golgotha's album 'Dancing Through the Palace of the Ungodly Beauty' (what a fucking title!  ) from '96 for the first time and I'm taken aback at how dark and vicious it is. It is in essence symphonic black metal but the vocals are fucking nasty, and between them and the clanky bass tone I'm put in mind of Mortuary Drape from time to time (and maybe Kvist a little, too). The keys dominate the soundscape and would have maybe turned me off this album in other times, but I am in a synthy buzz this weather so I can take it. I've never heard of these lads before so I'll have to check out their other releases but this one is really ticking many boxes this evening. Oh, the artwork is a gawdy eyesore too, but I'm into it. It's of its time, let's say.
