Ah now, BME has some great riffs.
I remember Aesthetics Of Hate videos having hand waving galore.

Dug a load of CDs out of the attic and reached for Burn/More Things. Haven't listened to either in an age but in the cold light of day I'd 100% agree with this..

QuoteI still think The More Things Change is every bit as good as Burn My Eyes, I'd go so far as to say it flows better as an album than the debut

Burn still holds up somewhat - but it ends with Nation on Fire, it completely runs out of steam after that, the last four tracks are half baked. The instrumental with the dopey title Realise Real Eyes or whatever sounds like a rehearsal jam that should've stayed there, and one of the other tracks has the riff from Spirit in Black. No denying the everlasting quality of Davidian, Old etc such well constructed tunes.

But you could be right about More Things Change, I remember being completely disappointed by it but it is definitely a more consistent record. It may not hit the heights Burn did, but all the songs are of a consistent standard. I fancied a nostalgia trip and thought both would be a one time listen but I think I'll be listening to More Things Change again.

Blood For Blood I like and Block is alright too, but Real Eyes... and I'm Your God Now are total filler indeed. An album that could do with a trim and maybe reordering the songs would improve it.

Real Eyes... is filler. I never really liked Old either. I think the rest is good to Gagarin.

The More Things Change... was disappointing to me when it came out but it's so long since I've heard it I might have to revisit it and reassess. Maybe...

Probably one for the controversial metal opinions thread but I used to enjoy The Burning Red. I actually prefer it over The More Things Change, an album that was a weak follow up to Burn My Eyes. Granted, The Burning Red, is them at their Nu Metal copycat stage but there's some good songs on there. There's no forgiving that Police cover though.
Haven't listened to it in years.

The only other album worth any time is Through The Ashes Of Empires but it's not like it gets regular listens. Never understood the love for The Blackening. Thought it was shite and I lost track of how many releases there was after that apart from laughing that catharsis sounds like cat arses

There's a couple of bits on Burning Red but it's so contrived it's hard to enjoy it. Robb literally looks at what else is going on with other more successful acts and follows suit. Last one I bought was Supercharger which was abysmal - couldn't ever listen to it again. Heard scraps of Ashes and knew it wasn't worth any time. Genuinely couldn't tell you what came after that until that Catharsis album came out and Robb was making a plonker of himself every other day

First two are mostly good with the odd dud and I used to like The Burning Red but it's so long since I heard it I'll probably just leave it there.

Think I'll lash on TMTC when I'm out just to see

I thought The Burning Red was cool when it came out. I even liked the Police cover. Every time this conversation comes around I say, I must revisit it (much like with The More Things Change) and then I exit the thread and come back to my senses

I have The More Things Change on here it's actually grand though

I liked The Burning Red myself, have the one with the red CD slipcase which looked cool, a layer of dust on it now no doubt. I liked The Blackening too but that's as far as I went.
Wearing jeans and leather, not crackerjack clothes

I'm not sure I could go back now knowing just how much of an idiot Rob Flynn is. It would lift me right out of the music (and I am definitely normally in the camp of being totally fine with separating the art from the artist. Though what does it say about me that I'm more affected by someone being an annoying asshole than by people who have done much worse...)

The hype around The Blackening was fun, it felt like everyone was talking about it at the time, but it was definitely shite. A real pro-tools, riffs glued together type effort.

They seemed to be at every metal festival going back in the day, always about 3 bands from the top. Usually always a decent watch.
