Simple (it must be, even I can play it), repetitive, but very effective.

An absolute dinger of a tune how didn't I think of it

Megadeth - Peace Sells

Iron Maiden - Wrathchild

Opeth - Bleak (some awesome licks in here)

In terms of Nu-metal the Mudvayne bassist is way too good for that woeful band  Non-metal but Muse have a lot of great basslines.

I'm guessing other fans of Atheist and Cynic/Aghora/Gordian Knot are having too much trouble narrowing down Patterson's, Choy's, and Malone's performances to any individual tracks!  :abbath:

Pantera - 5 Minutes Alone
Def Leppard - Gods Of War
Rage Against The Machine - Know Your Enemy
Prong - Whose Fist Is It Anyway

Let's not forget Gary Numan 'Music for Chameleons' lovely fretless bass....

Cryptopsy - Phobophile
The haunting piano intro followed by the slow rumbling bass before launching into all out chaos hits so well

Somebody mentioned nu metal a few posts back. I've always enjoyed the bass intro to Rearranged by Limp Bizkit

Anything by Bill Gould
Mr Bungle - Dead Goon
Well, anything by Trevor Dunn too

I thought of Atheist but indeed couldn't pick an exact thing it's as you describe, more just that all of it is great playing rather than any single line sticking out over the others.

Dead Goon is surely his high point. Unbelievable bass line altogether. Read an interview with him going through the writing of it (or was it a YouTube video, shit, the dim mists of ancient time and all that) and it was very cool.

Yeah, can't really single out anything from the likes if Cynic, Atheist. Was going to mention some from Suicidal Tendencies too but there's an absolute heap of great bass there
