Quote from: John Kimble on October 27, 2024, 09:47:32 AMYes, I do believe it's bullshit.

How exactly do you enjoy Arghoslent? Have you purchased some of their music? If not, have you listened to them on YouTube? Then, directly or indirectly, you've endorsed them to some extent.
I pirate their albums. But yeah,  I would accept that point otherwise.

Quote from: John Kimble on October 27, 2024, 09:47:32 AMI rarely wear band merch these days but on the odd occasion that I do, it's not with the intent of 'advertising' anyone. It's just a band and a T-shirt that I happen to like. If you want to get all woke and airy-fairy about it, then surely a metal festival should be a "safe space" (ugh, that phrase) to do so without being judged.
I wouldn't be a huge fan of Cannibal Corpse these days, in fact I'd consider them to be a bit of a harmless novelty act. Show their lyrics to someone who's been the victim of a sexual assault and I wonder would they consider them harmless? Probably not.

I assume most of us are sufficiently capable of telling the difference between Cannibal Corpse's cartoon violence apart from a band with genuine belief. I'm sure some people may find an issue with them, which is fine, but I'm happy enough they're not actually out there jizzing blood and knifing clunges until proven otherwise.
Promoting race theories and nazi ideologies though is something that has been an issue with a few of those bands and I don't believe most of it was done with tongues in cheeks.

Quote from: John Kimble on October 27, 2024, 09:47:32 AMAs I mentioned previously, if you were to do a deep dive into the backgrounds of any of your favourite bands, you probably wouldn't have to go too far to unearth something dodgy.
I absolutely agree. And if I wear something that has dodgy connections then that's my problem and I'm fair game to be challenged on it by someone who may have more knowledge on it than I do.

Now, I want to point out that I'm not trying to say these bands or shirts should be banned or burned or whatever. But people can decide whether or not they want them at their private event which you can choose to attend or not.

Quote from: Eoin McLove on October 27, 2024, 10:08:34 AMIt's just part of being a fan of the band. Who fucking cares about anyone else's political opinion when you're at a festival? That's not what anyone goes there for, but promoting this kind of nonsense is merely a way of the promoters advertising their own political stance. But who fucking cares??? Stick to your job which is putting on bands and stop policing people for nothing.

Yeah but it's not really their actual job is it? They're not delivering a public service funded with public money. The event can be as political or non-political as the organiser sees fit. But it absolutely should have been clearer from the start that they don't want certain bands advertised by people.
And I would argue that depending on the content of lyrics, the imagery a band uses or topics discussed in interviews, a lot bands are very much open to political and social discussions. And by extent the gigs and events they play are open to criticism.

Ah lads. For fuck sake. Do ye truly believe this is bullshit?
Just because someone makes an initially ham-fisted attempt at trying to steer people away from advertising for the utter dross of society like Varg and his ilk, doesn't really mean they shouldn't try.
The guy is awful. A truly fucking awful person.
Listen to his music. Enjoy it. Send him some holiday pics. I enjoy Arghoslent, but I'll never give those cunts a cent or advertise for them on a shirt.

If you decide to wear and advertise stuff by someone with an ideology, then others may not like. And some may even decide they don't want you at their party.

So you may cry bullshit and you may feel slighted against. So go and do what we all did when someone did something we didn't like.
Go and cry into your pillow. And then do nothing.

If ever there was a metal band to do a cover of an 80s power ballad it's these lads.

Quote from: Carnage on February 27, 2024, 03:59:49 PMYou will: it's shite.

I like Angel Of Retribution, one of my favourites of theirs. Nostradamus is overlong and doesn't really work, but there are a few belters on it. You have to admire their ambition in doing it, and Halford really pushes his voice on a couple of tracks.

Their low points for me are Turbo (you're not Def Leppard lads, thankfully), Ram It Down and Redeemer Of Souls.

Think House of Atreus had a gig or two pulled recently in ye US due to rumours of them being associated with racist movements or the like. As far as I can tell though their only association with that kinda stuff is that they sound like Arghoslent!
Ridiculous carry on.

I think at least half of Turbo is banging. Some duds yeah but when it works it really works. Out In The Cold in particular is up there with their best stuff.

Yeah, it's happened. Worms it's way in. It's great.
Raikaszi is such an earworm.
And like others have said the last song is amazing. But it absolutely had to be with a name like Babe Eternal. Ballsy move

Hellripper - Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags.
A definite cut above most blackened thrash type stuff, and an improvement on their last album too. A couple of longer length songs which can often be a sign of padding but they surprisingly end up being the most interesting songs on the album. Very enjoyable so far.

Megaton Sword - Might & Power. Still getting to grips with this but sounding good so far. I think it sounds more consistent than Blood Hails Steel but not yet sure the bangers bang as hard. To be fair it took a good few spins before Blood Hails Steel became one of my favourite albums of the last 5 years.
And what's left to be said about the vocals and lyrics... They're just class. Kinda link Cirith Ungol in how unpredictable they are, but he's really his own thing now. And they pull off the metal clichés so much better than bands like Eternal Champion (and I enjoy a decent amount of their stuff).

Hammers of Misfortune - Overtaker. Can certainly tell that he's picked up old Vektor rhythm section on this. Certainly their most chaotic and hard to digest album and totally different than the last two "Dad metal" albums, which were terrific in their own right. Maaaybe a little bit too full speed all the way through but early days with it. Lack of a proper physical release so far is a bit annoying - only a self-funded CD pressing that costs more to be delivered than the CD.

Freedom of Fear - Carpathia. Wild, techy, hooky blackened death metal sorta buzz from Aus. Gave it one listen and ordered.

Stormruler - Sacred Rites & Black Magick. More black/death with riffs for days. Reminds me a little of the Stormkeep album from last year but think this one should have more sticking power, that Stormkeep didn't have much to it in the end.

Wasn't keeping up with the gigs at all lately and see this is sold out. If there's any tickets for sale I'd be interested - definitely looking for 3, but possibly 4!

I would normally agree that an ending like what happened in Bosch is a bit of a cop out, but I'm pretty sure that it's similar to how the books have gone.
Thought the last series was enjoyable enough, Bosch doing Bosch. His daughter is painful alright though.

Helloween - Helloween. 3 singers, 3 guitars (to be fair one of them does both guitars and some vocals). All the ingredients for a steaming turd. But once you get into the groove of listening to that ridiculous 80s German style power metal it's actually good fun. Hilarious, but entertaining.

Totally agree with you McLove. I've read some places online complaining about the vocals but I think they're terrific. Nice variety in how he sings, not just the typical heavy metal wailing. Can hear the very slight Cirith Ungol influence alright. Probably prefer his singing to the Eternal Champion stuff!

The album overall is a tad patchy I'd say. But when it bangs, it fucking bangs. The title track is such an absolute slab of chest puffing battle cries. Just fucking building and building throughout the first two thirds, with a great payoff in the last couple of minutes. Such a well written song - probably my favourite of the past year.

Also, I think the album title is great. Hilarious. But great. Although that could be purely because of how he sings it in the actual song itself. He must say it 8 or 9 times and never once sang the same way.
