Big fan of the 2 albums mentioned above. I think Steadfast must be one of the catchiest metal albums ever. So many great songs, an absolute crime that it's so underground/unknown

I can't believe it isn't more popular too. I love working out to Steadfast, gets the heart pumpin'!

I was reading an article the other day and somewhere in the lines I read something like " when does someone know when a band is influenced by other bands and when it just straight ripped off another band? I mean nobody just creates music without listening to some first. Even sounds from nature.." etc etc

So how do you tell the difference? Do you have any examples (bands/songs) ?

That makes a lot of sense.

I've read before that nothing, absolutely nothing, hasn't been done or thought before, that everything is derivative.  I  wonder.

So here's a random set of 'metal' bands I found doing a search:

I haven't heard of most of them, but I can imagine they are quite derivative:

QuoteAh I wouldn't be too worried about pickups at this stage.

I agree with this. Spend as little money as possible till he shows he's committed and he can really practice. I learned on the worst equipment and used them for years, which made me sound all the better when I finally got decent  stuff.

On a side note, I wish I could get my 10 year old into playing guitar like you! I bought an acoustic off Amazon for very very cheap for him and it sounds ok, but he is just not that interested.  I've tried to explain all the benefits of learning and playing, and there are a lot (like making it easier to meet girls when he gets older for instance!) but he is just not interested.

That's good to hear. I've looked at those before and wondered how decent they were. Combos are usually the best way to go, that I know, and have always had that rig setup myself.4

Sounds pretty good to me. Regardless, you ought to consider taking some vocal lessons, get a referral from someone and give it a try for while. What do you have to lose?
