The new Ali G movie is causing a furore already. Cinemas are being called to ban it.

Without getting into a thing about it, I certainly wouldn't consider Rowling poisonous. Wasn't it mostly female jacks for women, and no-one except women in women's sports. That's as sensible as sensible can be.

Really enjoyed the movie, twist n all. Only watched it a couple of months ago and wasn't aware of the story behind it all.

Folk may be disheartened to know that the current 'push' in relation to juvenile and younger adult offending is towards a "softer" approach. Both the Council for Civil Liberties and the Penal Reform trust are not only in favour of increasing the age of criminal responsibility but also suggest "that the sanctions, standards and principles which apply in
the youth justice system be extended to apply to young people up to the age
of 24 years to align with government policy and human rights standards".

I don't think that craic will gain much traction in this environment. I'm no fan of Jim O'Callaghan but he seems to be tougher on crime. A low bar, admittedly, but I think people are fed up with the softly-softly approach.

There's talk of upgrading to attempted murder driving the wrong way on a motorway. As ever, it's all well and good bringing in new laws but until we have adequate prison space, it's all a waste of time.

Overcrowded prisons is the first hurdle that needs to be dealt with. Under no circumstances should someone accrue 100+ convictions. I'm all for diversion programs etc after the first 1 or maybe 2 offences but let's be real here, these yobs are very unlikely to be "diverted". It's idealistic and unrealistic to believe so.

I see it everyday. Little Johnny is a harmless darling. Except he's not, not even in the slightest and now he has caused the death of someone.

The antivax/COVID restrictions group are looking for vindication. That they were right all along. They need someone to be held to account or fall on their sword. Stats and data are being cherry picked to try and conjure up this person/people. COVID was varying degrees of shit for everyone. There's no shame in admitting that while the powers that be didn't get everything right, they did more good than harm. They were never going to get it perfect. There weren't, as Simon Harris said, 18 previous COVID events, and doctors, immunologists etc had to adapt in a swiftly changing environment. The problem is people are unable to accept and admit that they were wrong.

It was a shit time for everyone. Nobody enjoyed it. I just think everyone should put it in the rear view window instead of trying to find "gotcha" pieces of (mis)information.
