Don't think they'll be back here anytime soon I've vague recollections of them acting the bollocks with a promotor here.

I can only imagine how good they were. I even enjoyed that Subhuman album, not in the same league as the first two but some bangers on it and bachs vocals something else.

I'd agree with that. Some of what's been mentioned isn't for me but I can acknowledge the quality or the appeal.

Heavyweights

Primordial – Imrama through to The Gathering Wilderness is an almost perfect run of albums. I think the output declined to varying degrees after that, although they've still maintained a pretty high standard, I hardly go back to the later ones.

Abaddon Incarnate – The Last Supper and Nadir. I don't think they ever came close to replicating those two.

Arcane Sun – S/T.

Geasa – Angels Cry.

As someone quite rightly said, everything from Mourning Beloveth.

I could never really get into The Waylanders, Cruachan, Mael Mórdha, etc. myself, although a few people have mentioned the first Waylander record, so I might give that a revisit.

Someone mentioned Morphosis – the two tapes they put out were game changers for me too. I genuinely couldn't believe there was a band capable of making something like that in Ireland. Lobbing on Modus Operandi for the first time was a jaw-dropping moment.

Altar of Plagues were a funny one for me. I was all over them when the albums were coming out, but with that particular style of music, I've found over time that I don't go back to them nearly as much as I do other records of a similar ilk. White Tomb is the exception.

Malthusian and Vircolac have both released essential material in relatively recent times.

Partholon were a band that wasn't really on my radar until relatively recently, but I really admire The  Ocean Pours In.

Everyone is kind of mentioning the same stuff – and rightly so. But over the years there's been tonnes more worthy of people's time the Overoth EP as mentioned above is one example. I've been scanning through the collection and there's so much genuinely good stuff that I still return to.

With some of these releases, you get the feeling that the bands were on the cusp of something, which makes it a shame we never got more material from them.

Mass Extinction – Creations Undoing.

I've always held the Stand-Up Guy albums in high regard.

Dreamsfear – Prelude to Destiny was another important one for me, not just because of the music but because of the production values too, have to put that ones release into the context of year of release.

State Pathologist – Veins of the Earth is a cracking release.

I'm probably in the minority when it comes to Hexxed, but I enjoy the whole catalogue. They're such great musicians. I do think, though, that they would have been better off changing the name after Transgression.

One that may have slipped through the cracks, particularly for those into prog/metal, were Primed. They recorded an album but split up either shortly before or after it was recorded. I thought it was great, and it's such a shame it never got the release it deserved.

Jonas has a project called A Place of Level Earth – the two albums are really worth checking out. I listen to those all the time.

I think we've been spoiled to be honest, there have been and are so many good releases coming out of the place hard to keep track of it all. And I've missed tonnes of others here but am out the door now.

Watched Eddington earlier. Bit of a mess of a yoke.

Only got to it over the weekend. Another masterpiece from Aster. So on point, ending was pure genius.

You are 100% Correct - Mike Got Spiked supporting Anthrax. Fucking dreadful mismatch. MGS were the equivalent of listening to morning time radio banter, "It's such an honour to support Anthrax" when you know none of them had heard of them until that afternoon when they got the call to do the gig

I wasn't at the Anthrax show but I had the misfortune of playing on the same line up as these bell ends. I remember them being absolute cunts when approached with friendly banter pre gig and then having a few of them come up to after we played and one of them saying "we would have been nice to you if we had known your band was this good!" Up there with the most spasticated statements I've heard from local bands, or any bands for that matter, and that's saying something. And we weren't that good either, the lads just hadn't experienced anything outside of their gigsmart/ Dublin nu metal bubble.

Yep, had an identical experience with them. Didn't want to talk to us until there was an issue with the bassists equipment.

Question. Are people out of their fucking minds when they say they like new material from bands that are way past it?? NOLA is gold start to finish, in hindsight something that maybe worked better when 5 individuals got together for the fun of it without the extras/pressures that come from touring etc. The recording/playing is so natural, underproduced yet heavier for it. And the most glaring difference is the state of Phil's voice now. NOLA and Great Southern Trendkill are two of my favourite performances by him. That new track sounds like he's reading from a sheet in the studio.

There's no words really. They'll throw the book at you if your tax is out of date by a minute but you can kill someone claim manslaughter be sentenced to five years here and get out in 2-3. Bananas.

Yep and legitimate systems to prosecute minors. Released without charge for that is mental

On the 08th of July in Carlow Town, one of our own, Jackson Singh, was involved in a devastating accident when a black Ford Ranger pick-up truck stolen by four youths mowed him down when he was waiting for traffic lights to go green.

The pick up truck failed to stop for the police and fled the scene of the collision. In a matter of moments, Jackson's life and the life of this wife and their young daugther has been turned upside down. What should have been an ordinary day became the start of an unimaginable fight for survival, and recovery.

Jackson was advised he survived due to wearing full protective motorbike gear. He catastrophic injuries and will remain in hospital for a minimum of 8-12 weeks. He is facing a long and difficult road ahead.

Jackson and his family have already endured tremendous pain, emergency medical care, and the emotional trauma that comes with such a senseless act. As they focus on healing, they are also facing amounting loss of income during this recovery period.

No one should have to go through something like this alone. We in the biking community are raising funds to help a fellow biker.

Anyone seen this? There's footage on Reddit. The Ford vehicle stolen from Saggart/Rathcoole. Ran over a motorcyclist waiting on a green light in Carlow to get away from gardai. Lads eventually caught and released without charge. At least one possibly two of the cunts died in the incident on the M9 last week.

Justice system is completely broken. And it's very scary that there's people out there that minimise individuals like this or put it down to teenage tomfoolery.

Yep, gets harder and harder. I was like that last couple of gigs I went into then ended up having a great time. Tonight will be no different.

That's the problem. Some of the gigs do ok and pass without incident, if this is legitimately selling well that may prove to be the case - they're free to screw someone else over further down the road.
