His two 'x-rated' albums that he only sold at shows. They're both on YouTube though. Good oul craic. A bit puerile at times, like a country version of Steel Panther, but good for an immature laugh. Check out the tracks Lovelace, or Three Biggest Lies for a taste.

Listened to 'Texas Moon' earlier today.  There are some of his banned songs on archive.org. Yes, agree they are pretty puerile good for an occasional listen only.

I've  been listening to Gary Stewart the last while, it's taken me a while but his 'warbly' vocal style is starting to sound better.

Quote from: Carnage on August 04, 2026, 07:32:50 PMTripe can fuck off, even in our impoverished house in the '80s that was never put in front of us. Liver and/or kidney was bad enough for fuck's sake.

When my mother was away at Lough Derg my father would be in charge of the cooking.  I haven't touched fried liver since the early 80s

Quote from: OpenSores on July 25, 2026, 09:56:22 AMThin Lizzy - Nightlife (not one of my favourites, some tasty solos though)

Its a laid back album all right but does contain 'It's Only Money' one of my favourite songs from them.

Quote from: Pentagrimes on July 22, 2026, 09:57:35 AMNot to completely hijack the thread but we don't have a general travel one-any metal/punk/noise spots of interest to check in Prague? And yes, I am planning a trip to Kutna Hora.

Bergen-the record/beer shop mentioned was cool, can't remember the name but it was just up the road from Garage. This thread has me googling flights to Norway at work

There was a great local type non touristy restaurant serving reindeer in Bergen.  Its a lovely city especially down near the water.

Kutna Hora was a handy drive out from Prague,  its a surreal place, the bone chandeliers....

If you are in Oslo the Emanuel Vigeland frescos are something to see

Quote from: Carnage on July 17, 2026, 01:45:22 PMI'd also recommend Leagues O'Toole's book (The Humours Of Planxty), aside from being an in depth history of the band it's a good oul' yarn too.

1 available on Amazon for AUD 945.24.

Quote from: Giggles on July 17, 2026, 08:56:54 AMI probably know less than 5 Christy songs but I do enjoy them. Not sure if I've ever heard a note of Planxty.

Any recommendations for either?

There is a CD/DVD Digipak called 'Planxty, Between the Jigs and the reels a retrospective'  which is worth it for the 70s film footage alone.  Its probably on YouTube?

Quote from: Bogmetaller on July 16, 2026, 04:31:25 PMWent to see him for the 4th time on Sunday - worst of the 4 and still brilliant... How does he fare on the pallette of the other metal listening folk here??

I've seen him twice, listen to his older stuff a fair bit. Studio albums up to 'Smoke & Strong Whiskey' are what'd I'd generally go for.  Later live albums after that are still great.  Planxty, Moving Hearts I have most of those on LP & CD and still play them (when the wife is out.... she hates him 😄)

Get your hands on the 'Hillbilly Country' LP by Ray Lynam & The Hillbillies from 1971.  Mighty American style country. Get that playing and you'll be mainlining Big Tom before too long.

Quote from: Mower Liberation Front on July 13, 2026, 07:37:21 PMYoung people listening to country, what the fuck? Monaghan had the inbred yokel festival at the weekend, and the amount of teenagers and twentysomethings going to it is mental.  When we were that age, nobody listened to that shit. You had the indie fans, the metalheads, ravers, pop fans, nobody listened to country, everyone considered it crap that old fogeys listened to on Northern Sound.

It's like a generation of young Ryan Tubridys has been spawned.

Go away with yer ould head banging, this is much more craic.
