These songs are shit. As someone rightly said, anyone in the genre could come up with them.

The "anyone..." quote there is pretty much it. Other than the bit of pedigree in the band, nobody at all would listen to it. This is in stark contrast to Nola, which is a great album in its own right.

Edit: and I'm not even saying the tunes are particularly shit either,  they simply exist and not a lot else is all. I don't really see what these lads can do other than exactly that though, like what would we hope to hear from a new Down album?

I see Hetfield has taken the pragmatic approach to politics in music and said he doesn't want to bring it up at shows.

Cue derision in the comments calling him a Zionist.

It's just all or nothing on social media isn't it. Anyway I'm looking forward to the Metallica/Ed Sheeran gigs coming to a synagogue near you in the near future

Are the protests supported in general there? I don't even know what their demands are but I saw it written somewhere that trade unions are joining in now

They already tried it with that Arkaea album a few years ago, and that was crap. I can't see this being much cop but given how bad that new 'Fear Factory' song is, could it be much worse?

Just listened to a couple of tracks from the Arkaea album there and it's awful stuff. I know it's easy to put the boot in to things but it was especially shit as things go. I wouldn't hold out much hope for Machines of Hate

Reading the budget summary and knowing that none of it will make any difference to me. Really saves me thinking about whether things will improve or not

It probably wasn't that much different to how I saw them then to be fair. Horses for courses and all that..

Anyway back on topic I just had a run through of the Chat Pile album after getting the CD delivered. So yeah it's wonderful and all but what was a very pleasant surprise was that after the last track, the tracks kept going and when it got to 99 there was a shitty little bonus track at the end but having listened to it only online before now it was a very pleasant surprise even though the song was definitely shit sounding it is still cool.

Between this and the Godflesh album, the new album gods have been good to me the last month or so

Swans- Children Of God. Nothing I've listened to by Swans ever did it for me in the past, and when I saw them live I thought they were a joke. A bad one! But... but! This is clicking with me tonight. Maybe it's Swans time in Chez McLove

Circle Of Shit!!

I just wasn't thinking straight at the time. I still mostly stand by the idea that it's all so good that there are not many that stand out instantly above others. I mean it would be very hard to find a Godflesh bass line that I wouldn't be genuflecting to at some point of the song.

Well I got about halfway through LIKM and reached for Origin Of The Feces, which doesn't get talked about half enough because it's absolutely brilliant. Just take the first song alone and what happens in those fifteen minutes wouldn't happen in most bands' whole careers, and then the ridiculous pretence that it's a live gig to reimagine the first album is just a great idea.

It's actually just super. Followed that with Bloody Kisses and World Coming Down and I'm fully hyped up thinking about the run from SDAH to WCD and fuck what a run. Could even include the Carnivore albums as a precursor, as was already mentioned in the thread here

Did you get all the way through it? It's a grower.

I find myself regularly just thinking of the lyrics as I go through my work day and giggling at the puerile silliness of them, hearkening back to old times.

Dead Goon is surely his high point. Unbelievable bass line altogether. Read an interview with him going through the writing of it (or was it a YouTube video, shit, the dim mists of ancient time and all that) and it was very cool.

Nice! I'll see if I can find that. He might be my favourite bass player of all time. Narrowly beating out Bill Gould

Edit 2: I know a fella who plays in a Cork band (Dazgak!) who was sitting in my kitchen one day and was able to play the bass line from Squeeze Me Macaroni by ear upside down on my left strung bass, and to memory he never cracked Dead Goon.

I'm guessing other fans of Atheist and Cynic/Aghora/Gordian Knot are having too much trouble narrowing down Patterson's, Choy's, and Malone's performances to any individual tracks! 

I thought of Atheist but indeed couldn't pick an exact thing it's as you describe, more just that all of it is great playing rather than any single line sticking out over the others.
