General Discussion / General Election Thread
November 08, 2024, 02:30:20 PM
It's that time again when lads will be at the doors frothing at the mouth with provable lies.

Personally, I'd like to hold them all over hot coals until they promise to actually stop being greedy self serving cunts, but given the unlikeliness of my getting that chance, I'll probably go independent with my choices.

I fucking Despise them all.

Anyway, are the rest of us here looking forward to any of it?

Well I've a ticket sorted. I'm sure it will be the stupidest thing ever and I'm looking forward to it.

Anyone else stupid enough to turn up?

Gigs and Festivals / Templemore Metal Fest

This is on again this year. Always a decent day out. Will lash up the poster once I get the wife to send it to me because I'm not allowed on fb or Instagram but so far all I know is that Ordinator are playing early so I will likely be ordained into the drinkhood good and early. I doubt many from the board here will be much interested but I know the lad who runs it so I feel a bit obliged to put it out there each year anyway

Right so I make no secret of liking a bit of the old Nu (see what I did there!!) but I realise it's a dirty phrase in general and more often than not it's well earned.

Saying that though, I think there's some actually good stuff in there even including some of the also-rans who might have done better were it not for the label.

I think also that the whole thing is basically pop music with a different aesthetic but still..

Songs or albums from the era and don't be afraid of it ruining your cred either because you're all pretty much Dungeons and Dragons in terms of cool as it is, ie not cool.

Anyway, I listened to the first Korn album today and then the Chat Pile one and I'm about halfway through One Minute Silence - Buy Now Saved Later and I'm willing to stand by those three as decent albums. Had Slipknot - Iowa on the other day as well and liked it

What have ye got lads? It's OK, nobody is going to judge you... ah no they will  and harshly too!!

Metal Discussion / Mr Bungle
February 07, 2024, 01:54:42 PM
Thread if anyone wants talk about Mr Bungle. Got the idea from @Ochoill. We might get a few days out of it. I'll start so...

Disco Volante is their best work and has only gotten better over the years but the quality of all three proper albums is spectacular. Such a bold move to release that after the debut though I remember hearing it around the release date and being convinced that it didn't really qualify as music. The brother picked it up off the back of the FNM connection and I remember putting on the tape and waiting for the first "real song" to kick in, which never came

Never saw them live or anything but you'd never know they might be back some day

General Discussion / Non Metal Now Listening
January 20, 2024, 12:59:33 AM
Well a lot of the times the albums don't have to be recommended non metal but you might be listening to them and might have something to say about that.

So at the minute I'm listening to a Moby album called (honestly can't remember I'll have to look at the laptop) Last Night because I found it in a folder on the laptop and it's like that Play shit that I don't like but with a way better beat. I nearly like it but I will likely never listen to it again.

That actually happens me with a lot of the metal as well but this is this thread so yeah

Metal Discussion / Random metal related thoughts
November 20, 2023, 07:52:34 PM
Thread for all those single reply things that clog up the site all the time. Not particular bands being promoted etc but when there's a random thought that doesn't deserve a thread.

I'll start,

It's equally brilliant and absolutely fucking mock when the vocalist does the in between song banter in character.

Eg some of my favourite ever metal moments involve this very thing but when I get down to thinking of it, it's fairly shit in terms of authenticity.

Anyway, over to the rest of ye lads

Gigs and Festivals / swans in the academy
August 22, 2023, 01:36:45 AM
don't know if there's any point going to gigs at all after that one. It was just too good too rhythmic too heavy i just don't see why the rest would bother.

seriously that gig changed me.

There were two of roughly the same calibre which were FNM and GODFLESH and maybe in a way maybe a bit of Green Velvet but no this was different

Gigs and Festivals / Templemore Metal Fest 2023

Almost obligatory for me to throw this up at this stage.

Headlined by Tool tribute The Grudge this year, which should be a bit of craic.

Not anticipating many to travel to this but there was a bus from Limerick last year iirc (do I @ochoill?). Hard town to get in and out of with not much accommodation either. Usually a good crowd at it all the same.

There's the poster, which I couldn't figure out how to display on here

General Discussion / Irish Places Of Interest
February 08, 2023, 03:09:55 PM
Was in Co Waterford the other day and came across a place called Ballysaggartmore Towers, which I'd never heard of at all but was rather cool and it got me wondering about what other hidden gems might be about the country.

Think there was a similar thread on the old forum.

Anyhow, fire away with any places you know of that don't require an admission fee

General Discussion / Fishing
December 29, 2022, 09:30:17 PM
Surprised there hasn't been a thread on this so far.

Anyway mostly into the pike fishing myself but will try catch anything. Happy enough to whip out any of the regular coarse fish around. Love a brown trout on the worm or spinner as well but haven't ever taken up the fly fishing.

What do ye be at lads?

General Discussion / 80's Pop Tunes
July 06, 2022, 05:36:42 PM
I do be fairly buzzing off this stuff and I'm fairly sure I'm not alone, so I thought it might be cool to just link tunes here if anyone knows any good ones. Maybe it'll take off, maybe it's unnecessary. I'll start with one but don't be afraid to stick a few in a post. Nothing is too cheesy for this.

Actually how do we do it so that the video can be played on the page, or is that possible?

Gigs and Festivals / Templemore Metalfest 2022
May 30, 2022, 05:54:42 PM
After 2 years of whatever, it's back this year.

Waylander headlining. Usually a great days supping to be had at this but I doubt many will travel too far for it. Decent turnout at the last one before the world went pear shaped though so you'd never know.

Anyhow I look forward to seeing no-one from here at it unless they happen to be in one of the bands but I'll be poisoned there anyway. Great spot for it too, Geoff who organises it has great work done out there with the stage and the outdoor/indoor buzz so people can smoke and rain isn't a factor.

Are waylander any good? Is it that tin whistle sort of metal I imagine it is?

General Discussion / The Confessions Thread
August 05, 2021, 10:47:31 PM
Forgive me, Father etc.

Haven't seen this before on the old forum or the new. A place for those random confessions of things that one doesn't necessarily want to stand over. Any subject of course.

I'll go first: I watched the Limp Bizkit set at Lollapalooza the other day and I liked it. I found it very entertaining. I feel pretty bad about it so hopefully The Lord will forgive the transgression.

A light enough sin to start with, but sure yeah

General Discussion / The Best Album Ever
July 05, 2021, 11:12:13 PM
Any genre, 1 cross each.. discuss/argue but pick just one (actually sometimes there can be ties, so two each in and/or style if you like but if there's only one then so be it). Should be some gems to be found in this and the amount of crossover will be interesting to see although I doubt it will be too strong given the lack of genre.

I'm going with NIN - The Fragile/Type O Negative - October Rust

Both pretty rock orientated and I will have to live or die by these now in this thread but sure fuck it.

Who's up? It will be fun trying to not go back on the choices at the least.

Following on from the tangential nature of the Covid, Trump and several other threads, here is a place for all of the wild and also not wild theories doing the rounds both presently and historically.

I'll start with a couple of obvious and big ones, which I have mentioned while derailing other threads..

WTC Building 7 was collapsed on purpose. I don't know the reason but it is plain to see it was done on purpose.

The planes are spraying something. I haven't a clue why but I'm pretty sure it isn't to poison us all. Something else along the lines of geoengineering or weather control most likely but no proof other than looking at it that it is indeed happening at all.

Anyone care to discuss/refute?

General Discussion / Good News
March 29, 2020, 12:36:36 AM
Given the current miserable situation, I think we could all do with a bit. Whatever you have would be welcome as long as it isn't on a personal level i.e. "Me or my friend or whoever had something good happen to them". Actual things of a national or international interest. Anything at all.

I was reading about a town in America where they have introduced a living wage as an experiment and that idea is being highlighted once more by the current situation. I would call that good news. It isn't much but it's something positive even if it never takes off. Michael D Higgins alluded to something similar on the radio when speaking about signing emergency measures. The fact that idea is being brought to the fore can only be a good thing unless you happen to be some massive corporation intent on enslaving the masses.

What have ye got?
18
... that was actually any good?

Like not just different because nobody did it ie mixing some obscure folk music with metal, but the last time it was just done differently and also good.

Voivod would be a good example even though I hardly listen to them, but it was just done different and still good. Burzum have a couple in that vein etc

I got the idea from hearing the new Dave Vincent thing and thinking how it was just so fucking pedestrian and with all the music in the world what a fucking waste of my time going through any more than 30 seconds of it. I don't even think I lasted the 30 seconds honestly.

So...?

General Discussion / Random Thoughts
November 23, 2018, 11:36:15 PM
Random Thoughts. Fairly self explanatory, but saves on new threads going up for every random thought.

Doing things in general can be likened to folding a sheet. Once the first fold is even a tiny bit off, the degree of not right gets more and more with each subsequent fold and at the end it is fairly squared off but not all the way square. I was thinking about this while I was folding a sheet and thinking about mixing a song at the same time.

General Discussion / Recommended Non Metal Albums

This might be a good idea. I'll edit this when I think of some. And when there is more than just me here.
