Title: Bacterium 'Sunt Lacrymae Rerum'
Post by: Eoin McLove on June 16, 2019, 04:25:24 PM
"As weak fancy doomers hide behind loud amps and posh pedals and drown in a meaningless stew of wizard bongery, Bacterium arrive like a ragged fist in the face,  proudly launching their existential threat upon the creaky wavelength of the abyss to claim and demolish the throne of funeral doom death.  As it was.  As it is.  As it ever will be.  Doom."

Artwork and logo by Droll Meadow.

Music is sublime. Artwork an absolutely perfect match (great the way the border is cell-wall-like). But what's the above? Trying to instigate a doom-rap-battle? Should present yourselves as if into a void, not with critical reference to a scene you deem (largely correctly) to be irrelevant.

that sounds good but the production is way too murky for my liking.
who is doing the harsh vocals? they sound great.

The doom scene is very saturated with these sort of bands so something like this in a press release at least sets it apart as different. impossible to find good new doom that isnt just stoner blues.

It comes across as petty to me. In short, it's a self-description that would not endear me, personally, to check out a new band, and as an approach it's banal compared to the uniqueness of the music and aesthetic. Anyway, Andy won't mind me saying this; he's forever giving young bands image advice  :abbath: :abbath: :abbath:

It's definitely a very Andy press release I think we can all agree, haha! Seems to be a strict no gig/no interview policy too which is interesting. Total primitivism.

Deadly stuff altogether. Love the clangy, "coming from the other side of a church" drum production. Really digging the artwork too.

Nice one. Just to clear up any possible confusion,  originally Fuck Yoga were to release a noble CD edition in September but have decided to do elitist vinyl instead which won't be ready until early 2020. Unless another CD or tape offer comes in in the mean time no poser crushing physical edition will be loosed upon the weak until the new year.  Praise be, wimps.

Looks like this is finally set to be released at the end of this month.  We have a handful of copies that will be available from the bandcamp. Should be more than enough for the local funeral doom contingent.

Also,  despite being listed as a two song EP on Metal Archives,  it's actually a four song album.

Originally this was delayed due to Ivan from Fuck Yoga being snowed under with his label and other commitments. Now our old pal Corona has added another spanner into proceedings. Macedonia has been on lockdown for the past few weeks meaning the label has ground to a halt so we'll have to wait and see what happens. The course of true doom never does run smooth.

Coincidentally, after I posted the above I received an email from Droll Meadow, who did the artwork. Mr. Meadow is starting up a tape label called Odd Memory and has asked to release a tape edition of 'Sunt Lacrymae Rerum' with new artwork. I can't say exactly when it will happen in the current circumstances but it will follow the LP.

I took a listen to this today and it was much more varied than I would have thought from the description. It was crying out for gang vocals though. There was actually a bit towards the end of the second track which was almost approaching gang vox and all. Joking aside, I thought it was interesting stuff.

This confused me to be honest. I bought the digital album off Bandcamp but it just has two songs on it - so two more are missing from it?

When I checked Discogs, it also has the album listed as only containing two songs.

Really enjoying what I've heard but think I just have half an album.
Title: Re: Bacterium 'Sunt Lacrymae Rerum'
Post by: Eoin McLove on December 13, 2020, 07:44:51 AM
It has four songs,  yep. Did you buy it from the link I put in this thread? I'm not really sure how bandcamp works as I didn't set the page up but the idea was that we'd just stream those couple of songs until the LP was out and then start selling the entire thing but I think that the bandcamp setup pushes the listener to pay. Obviously the physical release has been delayed again and again. It was supposed to be out last month according to the FY bandcamp page (where the fourth song is streaming- song three hasn't yet been made public) but that didn't happen so I've no idea when it will be out at this stage. Pm me your email and I'll refund you the cash and you can either nab a download or an LP (or tape or CD which are also coming) whenever it actually gets released.
Title: Re: Bacterium 'Sunt Lacrymae Rerum'
Post by: jobrok1 on December 13, 2020, 11:56:16 AM
You can list all the tracks on Bandcamp.
Just not upload files to all of them.

Once the final tracks are made available, then they should be included in any previous purchases then. So it's kinda like a pre-order, where the full download isn't available till the official fill release.

Title: Re: Bacterium 'Sunt Lacrymae Rerum'
Post by: Eoin McLove on December 13, 2020, 11:58:53 AM

Post by: ResidentOfBok on December 13, 2020, 01:39:27 PM
Ah, ok. I was working off the 'Purchase Full Digital Album' option that was listed on the Bandcamp page as containing the full album.

Deffo don't want a refund as it's sounding good, and if you upload the full thing soon, I'll just download it then from Bandcamp. I should have the ability to do that going on the above.

Harsh vocals are great on it, it's definitely got a very disembodied and obscure vibe.

G'wan and upload it!

No new Bacterium in the works as yet but next time I'm home we intend to record something. Maybe even some new WOTH if we can make all those manky stars align. However, a brand new doom death/ funeral doom/ weird project is under way simply called Died. Give us a year or two...
