Standard thread to contain all greetings for new people.
Happy hello to all!
Very saddened to hear of the demise of MI but delighted that there's somewhere with metal gig listings. Best of luck to you and I'll spread the word!
Best of luck with the site Hambeast.
Yo, long time MI user here. Hello to you all, hoping that this'll take off! Cheers for setting it up hambeast.
Well lads I also came from MI. I have the same username and I'm still a pain in the hole. Also fair play for taking up the mantle Hambeast. I genuinely hope it goes well.
Welcome all! Thanks for the support!
I never really posted on MI. At least one person on here knows me in person astfgyl can surely guess by my username. Good luck with the site.
Old MI poster here. Good on you for trying to set something up to fill the void! The end of MI came out of the blue for me, I know the site wasn't doing as well as it used to years back but I never expected it to just disappear one day. Really relied upon it for gig info, and I had discovered many great bands and albums from the lads on there.
Best of luck getting this off the ground.
Yip want to echo the good wishes and all the best getting this going.
So what actually happened? MI death came out of nowhere.
It really was too sudden. I wish he had given everyone a month or so to get used to the idea. I've been on there for a long time and was genuinely saddened when it closed. Hope this one takes off.
Old MI user here, MI was a great site for gig listings and feedback, as well as tons of info on bands old and new, didn't expect to see it gone so quickly either. Glad to see something like this. Wishing all the very best with the site .
Hi all, like most of you I was saddened and disappointed with the demise of MI. Great to have an alternative!!!
Yeah, sad to see MI go. No harm supporting this site by signing up and hopefully it will take off!
I'm not in contact with anybody who used MI, so if you can all help spread the word it would be greatly appreciated!
Nice one for spinning something up. Really relied on the gig discussion forum, so hoping this takes off in that respect at least.
In because I guess I have to have some way of finding out about gigs.
Also from MI, may as well contribute a bit in hope it gets going.
Long time user of Metal Ireland. Good luck with the site.
Long time MI user too. Hopefully this takes off. MI was a good resource for gigs and finding out about new bands.
Another migrant from the old site :)
Welcome all, and thanks for joining!
Seems to be lots of new accounts today so word seems to be spreading. Anybody know where everybody is coming from?

I shared the link on facebook and some others have too so the word is getting out there.
Fantastic, thanks! It's much appreciated. Wasn't sure if it was a bunch of people from one big source, or lots of little sources.
Guitar player in Solstice, Scobe's butler. Twat....apparently
As others, long-time MI user. Was shocked when CT closed it down. It wasn't as active as it was in its hay day, not by a long shot, but the high era of internet forums is long gone. Doesn't mean they were completely useless, so it's good to see something else pop up. Best of luck with it.
Another MI user. Glad to see something else come around. Good luck with it!
Long time MI user also, sums it up really..

Gona be honest.. I miss the laughing smiley from the MI site already :'(
Another MI user here. Miss it for new bands and gig listings etc. Also miss that amazing off topic must listenable albums thread.
Hoping this takes off as a useful resource and place to go for info for the Irish scene. As noted MI closed down too abruptly imo.
Ah lads don't mind MI, it was great but there is already a good few heads on here and we may just move on. As was mentioned already it had gone very stale. I just hope none of that herd mentality and supposed cabal shit comes over here. We are all here for the same reason pretty much. If we want 4 page arguments between strangers who don't like each other there is always twitter. I'll just be ignoring all that shite myself same as I do on any forum.
I actually came in to say it is great to see it picking up anyway.
From MI also, mainly for gig info. Hope this works out for you

Aye, it's dead. move on (though I'm not sure I get the "cabal" comment).. also the instant bonus this forum has going for it is that there's an "IGNORE" function if the shite talk takes over.
Great stuff. Good to see something back up and running!
I was on MI since the NI metal forum days as hemlock666. Good to see a few familiar user handles turn up here.
I'm living abroad these days but MI was my channel for music from back home. Hopefully this fills that void.
Best of luck with this lads.
By the way the site works a treat on mobile. Nice work with the interface.
How'ree Lads ?
Heard about this phoenix on facebook. Mighty shtuff. Hola Pedro.
Good work, Hambeast. Another long term, old fart MI member here. I know MI struggled over the last few years but I still think it's important to have a place for new local bands to get things kick started. Hopefully this will be a success.
We're back in business!
Fair play Hambeast - Thanks for setting this up \m/
Long time MI reader, very occasional poster - delighted to have somewhere to loiter again!
....
I know it's been said, but good work sir.
I was feeling the loss of MI. It's hard to break the habit of 19 years
Also here from metalireland. I think I had about 600 posts in 12 years so I didn't post a lot. I enjoyed being on there and esp the reviews archive which I will miss greatly. Someone get McLove on here with his endless recommendations of music to listen to
I'm right here, honeybee ;)
A long time lurker on MI, will try and be more active and spread my love of Canadian metal bands... Not that I am Canadian, I'm from County Armagh for my sins...
Howdy!!!
Used fastfude and metalireland for many years as longhairedgit.
I like how quick a replacement popped up. Haha..
Hi all. Long time MI lurker and glad to see a replacement 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Good to see the MI community continuing, here's to more of this sort of thing!
METAL FUCKIN' IRELAND!
A resource for gigs (even just knowing who's on tour at a given time, for those of us who aren't in Ireland anymore) and new metal bands is simply invaluable, so fair play to the beast of ham.
The biggest thing "missing" now is the extensive archive of reviews, which is a real pity.
Just curious actually as I'm talking to Ham about this - do people value reviews? I always got the feeling they were kind of ignored on MI as anything other than a place to make anonymous/bitchy comments
I know plently of lads who always read them and never comment, myself included. Always enjoyed them. I often feel they seemed more ignored because the forum held more discussion there anyway than the review sub threads. Would be handy if each review linked to a thread here rather than it's own separate system and it might get a bit more discussion going honestly.
Here we are again :)
Nice one lad, fair play for putting your time and energy into this, hope it floats. I'm also one of those MI people.
Relieved to have an Irish metal forum back.
Recognize a few of the heads from MI already,so I kept my name too.
Formerly Pedro...great to see this up and running. I found MI invaluable for new recommendations, be it music, books, films, whatever.
Howdy folks. Tom here, formerly No Thrash! No Cash! back in my Mass Extinction days. Great to see a new home for Irish metal.
Currently writing instrumental music as 'Waves'. For anyone interested, here's some free music on Soundcloud https://soundcloud.com/waves-irl/sets/waves
MI migrant here as well, I just cannot use Facebook/Twitter for metal discussion or gig related stuff, it's soul destroying over there. Younger generations ain't signing up to facebook so look forward to it's demise!
MI had such a rich archive of gigs/reviews/interviews/forum discussion that the option of changing owner should have been put on the table but I can understand not wanting to.
Best of luck with the site.

Jaysus, had never made the connection before! Hope you're keeping well man.
Infrequent poster back on Metal Ireland and will likely be again on here. Looking forward to seeing how this site progresses. Always enjoyed the Off Topic threads so hoping for more of the same. Discovered some great non-metal in there over the years.
Be rude not to register after not posting in MI outside of the "off topic" forum for years. Somehow I managed 2700 odd posts between 2002ish-2010ish mind. Crazy I was 16-17 back when I first used MI, and now I'm sore for 3 or so days after any gig I go to.
Nice one. Got the link from boards.ie
Best of luck with the forum. I'm from the band Clunaculum.
.
Long time lurker on MI - never posted a thing!
Came over thanks to the heads up from James from the Distortion Project
Hoping for gig news (both here and the UK) and a heads up about all sorts of stuff

Ah sure why would ye. Night and day projects. Is that Chris Era V?
Great that something has replaced MI. Fair play!
Long time metalireland follower, never posted much. Good to see another forum up and running.
How are yiz lads
Fair play for getting this up and running Hambeast...Will be a great source for gigs etc.
I'm sure like others here, I found the abrupt ending somewhat odd. Metalireland was a fantastic resource, and wish the mods here all the best with the new forum. I haven't the foggiest notion what kind of drain running a website is on one's time and finances, but I can't help thinking that if it had become too much an effort, that perhaps the baton could have been passed on to another, so to speak. Whatever about the forums, for the sheer amount of reviews, articles, retrospectives etc just to disappear into the ether, seems like a bit of a waste. Regardless, best of luck to CT with everything and a fond farewell to MI, end of an era.
fair play on setting up the new forum
Best of luck on the new venture. Another here over from MI and wishing this is a success.
Fair play getting this up and running. I was getting fierce DTs after the death of MI
Very happy to see a replacement for MI, the internet seemed a lonely place without it. Cheers to those who have set this forum up. Hopefully it continues to show/highlight and introduce new and old bands to everyone out there.

Aloha! saw a new site up and running. I became more of a lurker past few years but metalireland was my go to when I had a spare few minutes in work to check out what was on or more additions to the tale of Scott fury!!

The legend that is Scott Fury. Wonder what he's at nowadays.
Part of the migrant caravan from MI here as well, glad to reach a safe haven! Nice one for the link leoos
Yeah the loss of all the reviews, classic write ups etc is a crying shame. Even if it could have been transferred over to the Irish Metal Archive or something...
Thanks for setting this site up. I, like many others, had withdrawal symptoms when MI was shut down. I hope this site is here for many years to come!
Same username from MI - you'll either know me or you won't, been there since day 1. Good call spinning something up.
Decided to sign up as I can't have enough places to be asked if tickets will be on the door.
Quick q to the admin - I just posted a few gig threads and linked the show poster but the image isn't showing. Any idea why?

I've lost count of how many times I've done that.
Am loving some of the things I can do on this site - how did I manage to go so long without the option of having Christopher Lambert as an avatar?
Anyways....site looks great, could we get some Brush posts and Shoctopus bashing threads going just to ease us into the new world?

Quick q to the admin - I just posted a few gig threads and linked the show poster but the image isn't showing. Any idea why?
Technical answer:
That's due to security configurations on the site. The forum runs over https:// (secure) and your images were linked from an http:// (non-secure) source. The site is configured to block insecure elements from loading on secure pages as a security precaution. Kind of like if you had an armoured truck to transport money, but you left a briefcase of money sitting on top of the truck, which defeats the purpose of having the armoured truck. I noticed the DME site supports https;// so you're generally always best using the https:// version of the site over the http:// version. I believe most major browsers will be implementing this in the future too, so it'd be good practice to link all images or links to the https:// version. I've configured the forum to proxy all http:// content so it shouldn't be an issue anymore. Might require a hard refresh (shift+f5 on a computer) to get it to display if it's not showing for you.
Short answer:
Fixed. Should be working now. Thanks for the heads up!
Cheers - appearing now .

Was more a MI lurker myself, a few posts here and there, good to see this taking shape. Hope it goes well and can be a good replacement for MI. Fair play to all involved.

See you in 2027 !
I was under prof. wedgie on MI, but time for a change because it was a stupid, shit name.
I'll just echo what everyone else has been saying in hoping this place takes off. I find facebook/twitter is useless for any sort of gig or band discussion so had been missing MI for that. I was introduced to so many new bands through the site, so seeing all the old users moving here hopefully that'll continue!
Another MI import (scifo). Had found it a bit stale (read childish) the last year or so but would still regularly check for gig info. new releases/bands etc. This looks like a worthy successor so best of luck
Long time MI lurker, good to see an alternative pop up, gig discussions are invaluable
@ Hambeast - is there a way to add shows to the 'gig listing' section or is it only admins allowed to do that? Sorry, I might be blind.
Sent you a message
Here from MI. Even though I had a chance for a new username I decided to stick with that stupid one. I wondered where all ye hoors were posting.
Great to be able to keep track of gigs and new releases.
Fair play Hambeast.
All the best with the new forum!
Thanks for setting the new site up. As mentioned above, a site like this is invaluable for gig\album info.
I was mostly lurking on MI over the past few years like a lot of people it seems. I guess I should have posted more to let them know I was actually using it.
Best of luck.
Long time lurker / poster from mi. Best of luck with the new site. Glad to have it.
Hello. I don't contribute. Just lurk.
Fuck that. Lurking is what killed the last one. Contribute. :D
I'd agree with Juggz. You will get more value out of a forum by interacting with it. If the threads aren't to your taste then start one of your own.
Exactly. It was sad to see so many people make comments in the last couple of weeks about how they visited MI but never posted. The strength of any forum is in the level and quality of participation. Get involved and get the most out this. Have your say, that's what it's all about.
Just arrived. Nice to see some familiar names/handles. Was a bit lost with MI to be honest.
Irregular poster on MI but full time lurker - especially in the Gigs forum. Thanks for making a new space to replace it and good luck.
ahh its good to back...thanks for setting this site up!!
Nice one for setting this site up Hambeast. Was getting the MI DT's.
Looking forward to a bit more lurking and getting good tips about local bands and gigs.
Cheers for setting this up!

Yet another MI refugee here, though under a different moniker as my old username there was just my own name! Crazy that a site you've been used to visiting almost daily for about a decade can just disappear overnight without warning. Can't begrudge CT though, I'm sure that behind the scenes it can be a massive time sink and pain in the hole to keep a resource like that going for so long.
Great to see that a lot of familiar names have migrated here. I look forward to more of McLoves recommendations of deadly bands whose names I can't pronounce ;D
regular lurker but rare poster on MI. will sorely miss the new release reviews, delighted to see MW set up. fair play!

Good to see some of the usual heads back. Fair play for getting the ball rolling again.

Look forward to contributing. :)
Great to see this up & running....
Used be a regular on MI in the early days but got bored of it in the last few years. Aul bastard from back in the day but listen to all sorts of stuff these days.
Hopefully the forum takes off and does well. Look forward to contributing anyway.
I was mb502 on MI. I used it for recommendations mainly, didn't post much. Fair play for setting this up and the best of luck with it!
So this is where you all got to?
Hey. So Metal Warfare. Cool Name. Hopefully gonna pick up the good points were Metal Ireland left off.
Good to have somewhere to talk shite about metal now and again, check out new bands, tour dates, album reviews and if there's any decent local bands that's always good too.
Cant say i used Metal Ireland much in the latter years as it did seem to (in part) disappear up its own asshole a bit.
Anyhow - i was BAGGY on the previous forum. Im BAGGY on here too........
If you know me then you know the score - 100% metal, no gig too far away to get to if needs to be got to.
Iron Maiden is my fave band but i like all sorts from Doom to Grind and classic Rock and Metal.

War Iron and Fuckhammer!
Deadly bands.
What's the status of War Iron and Fuckhammer now? Feels like it's been a while since I've seen War Iron and even long for Fuckhammer
Been waiting for an MI replacement to spring up. Great news!

WAR IRON - Status: Defunct. Good while it lasted, Final shows were supporting Napalm Death.
Still some copies of the final release ' Black Bile...' on Bandcamp.
https://wariron.bandcamp.com/album/black-bile-black-heart.
FUCKHAMMER - Status: Hiatus. Speculation of a new recording possibly even a live show or two in 2019 persist. Who knows if they will materialise.
if you dont know fuckhammer the tracks are on bandcamp - some cd slipcase of 'fucked'still left.
https://fuckhammer.bandcamp.com/track/jenkem
I'm sad to hear. War Iron was one of the first gigs I ever went to. I remember being blown away by how heavy it was, and not a guitar in sight! Might have to grab some of the stuff from bandcamp while it's still available.
I'll definitely be in attendance at the fuckhammer gigs if they materialize
Was on MI since 2008 and it's always been the only real metal resource in the country, especially for gigs.
Good luck taking up the mantle. Going well so far!
I had been on MI for about 12 years so was pretty surprised when it closed up shop. I had stopped posting towards the end as it seemed most people did also, but I still checked it daily. Delighted to have an alternative, fair play to Hambeast for setting this up. Hopefully this place stays a bit more active then MI was before the end.
Well done for setting this up mate, stumbled upon it through your post on Facebook.
Hello! Pedro of MI pointed this out to me.
Here two minutes and I have a bone to pick. My registration failed when I answered 'A human number' to What is the number of the beast? :p
Nice website, kept my name from Metalireland.
I am a Croatian guy, living in Ireland since 2017. Have found MI online donkey years ago and was reading it regularly, but was never a member.
Great work Hambeast, I had a look round the site and you've done a good job getting a forum going again for Irish Metal and beyond.
All the best to it and long may it last. Cheers.

Missed MI seems like this is the spot to be now. Posted there as same username also 8)
From MI, same username. Hope this site is as good.
Hi all, great to have somewhere to find out about gigs and music recommendations again.
Was on MI many years ago but lost contact due to work and travel. Best of luck with MW all.
Was on MI with the same username (I think) I play guitar in the Dublin band Sectile, and before you ask, that's not me in my photo
Great to see this up, also ex MI user, once Hick always Hick.

Delighted to see this site up and running. Was a regular MI lurker and occasional poster glad to see another place to go on here! Thank you Mr. Hambeast
Well dad. Welcome.....
Alright guys
Cool to see there is somewhere to go after MI going down.
Hello and welcome.
Used to post on MetalIreland years ago and been lurking on here again for a few weeks so figured I'd make an account so I can post again!
Hello! Former MI user/lurker (mostly) here also. Great to see an alternative available, thanks for setting it up! It's great for keeping up to date with the gigs. I didn't even know Mgla were playing later this year until I seen this today! Delighted!
Great to see this up and thanks to mowerliberationfront for the heads up
Used to check out MI on & off for years and was sad to see it go. Hopefully this site can fill the void.
Moved to Dublin in October 2016 from the UK, get to plenty of gigs but don't really know anyone so it was good to find this board. Heading to Roadburn and Supersonic this year and always hear a few Irish voices!
Hadn't logged into Metalireland for a good 6 months and saw it was gone :( at least there is a new forum!

How's the form, lads? Only learned of this place today.
I was only looking at the MI Fantasy Premier League earlier trying to figure out how to keep it going after this season is over.
I don't use Facebook and stuff so I was a bit lost on where to find out about metal gigs outside of Cork.
Just used my old MI username - I presume a lot of folks have dome the same.
Delighted that there's a forum again. Fair play to who ever set it up.

Great to see MW up after MI is gone...looks great and seems to have everything we need, keep it up...

Greetings. Was a regular MI user, glad to find this.
Hey lads, how ya doin'?
Howdo, was on MI on and off over the years. Don't get to too many gigs (last two were Slayer in Dublin last year and Therapy? in Galway a coupla months ago) but anyway.

Not actually from MI but knew about about it and had visited it once or twice before it was shut down.
Favourite bands are Manilla Road, Sabbat, Impaled Nazarene, Running Wild and Sadistik Exekution.
Currently studying archaeology in UCD
Welcome and look forward to your contributions.

Hey all. NailBombed here - used to be a longtime part of the MI boards, only just recently found out about this place. See a few familiar names around here - howdy to Pentagrimes, Eoin McLove, and others! Looking to get back out to a few gigs around Cork (and possibly further) after some time away from it, so would certainly appreciate advice about goings-on, metal, hardcore, or otherwise around Cork City. Good to see all of ye here! Feel free to send me a PM if so inclined.

Hi all, here an expat living in Dublin and craving for concerts... that's also how I ended up in this place, checking for next dates. Can someone explain what's the reason for such a high amount of metalcore/thrash bands and gigs here in Dublin? Would be nice something else for a change ::)
Follow Invictus Productions on Facebook for more extreme gigs. DME is good, it just happens that there is a lot of thrash at the moment.

Hello and welcome.
Cheers, great to have a place like this already I'm checking out some great new music particularly out of some Irish bands
Good luck with finding some great Irish bands!!
eh theres plenty of good irish bands out there.
Hi Guys!
Longtime metalhead checking in. I used to browse MI back in the day but I was never a member so I thought I'd jump right in here.
I listen to most metal but have been on a brutal death metal/ Grind buzz lately. Looking forward to some quality metal discussion.
Hello and welcome.
Hi all
Another cast away from the Earls site intend to look in here for some news mostly and share interests etc.
Greetings !
Hi Lads, use to browse metal ireland back in the day. Never really posted. Think I did once to find musicians, i've massively upped my gig attendance and started my own band last year so it's returned some of the vigour I had for metal that had gone a bit more backround in life, althought I basically exclusively just listen to Megadeth. Probably see a lot of you at Exodus, Testament, Death Angel in March. My own band "Strangers With Guns" is playing there too for "Clang" festival. If anyone is going you'll save a tener if you use "strangerswithgunsclang" as the code.
Feel a bit like a spammer or salesman at the end there, but itching to say it.
Hi all,
I used to sporadically post on the old forum back in the day. I was the vocalist for Dichotomy and now Astral Tomb. It's great seeing a resource of this sort back. Everything is nice and centralised.
Cheers,
Kev
Hi all,
I've been lurking on here and metal Ireland for years, figured I may start trying to contribute.
Favourites would be the likes of swans, sepultura, primus, a bit of everything really. Looking forward to sunstroke, big Patton and faith no more fan as well. Looking forward to napalm death too.
Greetings and welcome to the forum....
What's the headcount of registered users on this forum now?
576 according to the front page.
Often wondered what numbers did Metal Ireland have at its peak? Its great to have this page all things considered - and it can only improve with increased numbers.
Well hello there! I'm Thanos, 27 from Greece, admitted for a Master in Law in Trinity College Dublin, so I'm moving there from August!
And of course, the first thing I looked out for was... you guessed it right, metal websites/forums.
I'm gonna lurk a bit to see how things are here, but my first impression is reaaaally good.
Oh, and among my favourite bands are My Dying Bride, Queensryche, Pink Floyd, Candlemass, Atlantean Kodex. I'm not even mentioning bands like Maiden and of course all hail Primordial ;)
Hey Thanos, welcome to the forum and you'll be very welcome in Ireland too when you arrive.
That's a nice mixture of bands you've mentioned there pal.
Hails Thanos, welcome aboard! Don't be shy in sharing some Greek bands for us to check out! I got sone surprise the other day to see that Death Courier have a new album coming out, last thing I heard of them was when Wild Rags released their demo in 1991 :o
Hey dudes! Great to see an active forum with people who have similar taste. Will be perusing the forum and getting the lay of the land for a bit now. Thanks to the mods for accepting my request to join.
It's great to see that the MI community never even remotely disappeared. Here's my long overdue intro for those interested:
- I'm a long time extreme metal fan, performer and producer based up in Belfast
- Primarily into everything metal-wise that doesn't sound very melodic so the black/death scene is basically my go-to in Ireland
- Always interested in new murky bands I can check out (or even better, ones I can see live)
- I play in Disconnect and used to run a funeral doom band called Abbotoir
Dublin and Belfast are my main places of operation when I'm not gigging, but hopefully I'll bump into some of you when current events subside!

There's a good few regular heads from the old forum missing. Dr. Gonzo, looking back at the fear thread. Wonder if he even knows this place is here...
Jaysus yeah, Dr Gonzo. His stories were nuts. Dread Pirate Sid. But it's Mike who is most sorely missed. Also, Claire28. 'First rate show, mopping up sweat' indeed.
He was fucking Pleather if he didn't turn up for the sequel
How did we manage to have 772 online here at 2am on 23 January last? Seems a very peculiar time for such high numbers.
By the way delighted and grateful that we have this forum, thanks for keeping the show on the road hambeast 👍
Hello! I wanted to introduce myself - was a longtime lurker and occasional contributor to MI though live in Glasgow now. My buddy Stand-Up Paul suggested registering here, so it's good to reconnect.
I have posted details of new music, as Tend, on the Promotional board too.
All the best,
Philip
Hi all!
Was a fairly regular poster on MI back in the day. To be honest I've been listening to so much wildly different types of music these past couple years that I haven't been keeping up with metal all too much. MI was pretty much my sole resource for finding new stuff, as I liked the community buzz to a forum as well as all of the off topic stuff.
It was only a week ago when I met up with a few mates in the gaf whom I hadn't seen in months -- one of them ('spiritcrusher' is his username here) told me that this new forum has existed for 2 odd years.
Had no idea. Deadly to see a few familiar users from MI too and some new versions of great threads that were there also. :abbath:

That's me alright man! Nice to be back. Now I can sit back once again and get all my underground metal delivered to me rather than having to go looking too hard. Where's Dr. Gonzo and his horror stories from the sesh though? ;D Spent many an evening re-reading those threads in absolute knots.
I think the biggest improvement around here is support for the Abbath emoji. Behold...

Dia daoibh a chairde,
I've been MIA on the metal scene for years and years was mad into the stuff when I was younger then lost in a sea of electronic, hip-hop and folk music. Only slowly finding meself drawn back.
Good to see this place so active, it always saddens me that Éire follows the UK so much with its musical trends and great bands (cough, primordial) don't get the recognition here that they deserve.
Hi all. Great to see this place up and running. Mainly lurked and occasionally posted on the old site as Ironwolf. Looking forward to more laughs and new discoveries !

Fair play Mr. T, welcome aboard. You should start a thread in General Discussion here about your band as it's kinda lost in the local filth thread. Post some links and plug the album!

Hello guys
Great to find this Irish metal forum.
I used to sing in a black/war metal band called Solace of Nadir years ago, and I played bass and some backing vocals in Grinned, a mix of grind and roll and some hard-core, but we split up 8 years ago.
I enjoy listening to a broad range of music.
I've been enjoying listening to Mayhems de mysteriis dom sathanas the last few weeks.
I hope we can get back to going to gigs again, but its not looking like that will happen for a fucking age and a half!
Im a big Liverpool fan too, and early to mid 2000s pro wrestling!
Great to see such a forum so active these days. Like to mainly lurk on forum and contribute small snippets of info now and again. Also run a small distro vinyl label and distro in Sligo Distro-y Records so will post info when appropriate new releases and such.
Hello all,was over on Metal Ireland and really missed it after demise,I'll probably will just be a nosey bastard in the background with popcorn

I was Matty_The_Emo_Slayer on MI. Only found out about this from Corkonian Hunger in a group chat the other day and already it's looking like better for genuine music discussion than Facebook.
Just found out about the site the other day, I was a regular user of metalireland.com back in the day. Great to see an active forum that isn't attached to Facebook.
Hello and welcome back...
Yeah ,welcome back Naraka and he who was formerly known as the Emo Slayer too. Good to see the familiars.
Hello all, used to post a bit on Metal Ireland and have been lurking here for ages so I have finally joined.
Welcome Viking... :abbath:
Hello! I'm new here, I'm interested in getting to know more about what local bands are out there, particularly in the South East region. Have a great day all
Not sure of the South East in particular but there is a small, active scene in Cork.
Hi all I'm Laura, a blow-in from the South of England. I've been living in Mayo for the last 8 years. A lifetime metal/punk head I'm working at the Community Radio in Castlebar and have had the chance to start up a weekly show, The Moshpit.
I'm calling it a "heavy variety show" because it's a mix of all the crap I listened to as a teenager, and a bunch of new and old stuff from a whole range of genres – in essence an alternative outlet from all the country and pop that gets played on the radio!
I'd really love to get a focus on Irish bands and local talent and feature a homegrown band each week. I'm thrilled to have touched base with Atheos – really excited to present them this week on the show . So impressed and pleasantly surprised with the talent here in Ireland.
I originally planned to run the show for 6 weeks but have been enjoying putting the shows together so much I hope to continue for the foreseeable future. In saying this I need some material! I'm keen to hear from Irish bands – established or upcoming....as long as you fit the criteria of "heavy/rock/alternative" I'd really love to hear from you. Ideally I want this to form the core of the show, we're a community station and I want to play and promote Irish bands. Unfortunately all this covid crap prevents us from doing interviews etc at the station but that's something I want to do in the future as soon as things settle down. In addition, requests for tracks to play greatly appreciated! I had a complete hiatus from gigging/listening in general bringing up the family from 2010 so I've missed an entire decade of music...As an ole lady I'm trying my best to catch up but any help would be greatly appreciated!
Well, thanks for reading - I'm looking forward to delving into this awesome resource here -glad to see an old style forum still going!
The Moshpit airs weekly- Wednesdays at 10pm on 102.9fm in Mayo, online at CRCfm.ie / Tunein or catchup at mixcloud.com/TheMoshpit/
Laura
Oh and can anyone tell me how to change my profile pic? :(
Hi Laura, welcome aboard. You should post all this in a dedicated thread to get more attention and feedback for what you're hoping to do. It'll be mostly lost here otherwise.

Got it. Thanks, Snare. I'll repost that in another thread and just say Hi here :)

Longtime lurker of MI and here - registered a few months back so just posting to confirm I'm not a bot.
Probably don't have a lot to contribute as I haven't really been following the scene closely as I used to, but I appreciate the posts from the knowledgeable members that turn me on to new stuff.
Welcome aboard, the pair of ya. :abbath:
Greetings,
Long time metalhead, found out about this forum from a Reddit post a few days ago. Have been living in Ireland (Dublin) for 5 years, looking forward to meeting some more fine folks with excellent taste in music \,,/

Met and spoke to you once or twice. Welcome aboard.
Forever lurker. MI was always full of elitist pricks acting like self appointed scene gatekeepers - fine traditions gotta be kept up.
Edit. Nevermind...
Quote from: Eoin McLove on October 06, 2022, 10:44:44 AMJesus you're a sour cunt. Two posts in, both crying about elitists. Fuck off back to the playground, you boring fuck.
Cheers boss. Good to see you still the same twat always were.
As far as i was aware the point of posting in 'Metal Pet Peeves' was about airing things that annoyed an individual? I didnt say it was related to this site, just a 'pet peeve' of mine generally - problem with that? Elitist prick protest too much i think x
 OK man. Keep crying in the shadows. Good luck.

Losing your touch fella - pretty poor retort that. No shadows for me, thats your domain.
And also, thanks for proving my point about scene gatekeepers! Jaysus you were on me quick!
Thou shalt not etc etc
The gatekeeper of a public forum... you're some man
Right, enough. I'm not getting into this ridiculous argument.
Quote from: Eoin McLove on October 06, 2022, 12:00:56 PMThe gatekeeper of a public forum... you're some man
As are you. A public forum indeed - so why be concerned and focus in on my two little posts so sharply? Why should it bother you what i post - i certainly dont know you/have never spoken with or had any dealings with you. I am a member of the public yes? Seemingly taking offence that i posted a 'peeve' in a 'pet peeves' thread is quare action lol!

Fact is you started things by getting buttsore about two posts made by little ol me that had nothing to do with you........wonder why?
You're dead right, which is why I deleted my post. And so, I bow out.
Quote from: Eoin McLove on October 06, 2022, 12:15:37 PMYou're dead right, which is why I deleted my post. And so, I bow out.
Dont worry, i wont let you forget.
Quare action attacking somebody on a public forum as soon as they join/post just like good old MI days eh? This 'scene' will never change and thanks again for proving my point so emphatically.
So... maybe we can get this pointless exchange deleted? Not exactly "welcoming". For what it's worth (and you can delete this too), I think the current forum is less elitist than MI ever was! When I read your post in Metal Pet Peeves I presumed you were talking about another forum, since nothing like you described has happened on MW, not that I can recall anyway.
Indeed Chris. And maybe we should get all your pointless exchanges deleted too. But that might take a few years

Greetings mortals,
I've been lurking since the sites inception really, I used to do the same shit back on MI. My username back on there was DannySatan. I Am a 38yo Irish bastard, live in Clondalkin with the wife & daughter, work as a paint mixer in a small company in Bluebell. Obsessed with metal as ever, along with Aleister Crowley, Star Trek & tits. Play bass guitar but I'm shit at it as I had my left arm/wrist smashed by a baseball bat in a fight so it fucking hurts to twist and bend my wrist, so that sucks. Just thought I'd finally join in & be a bit less of a weirdo. Cheers!
QuoteDid anyone ever find out why he did it in the end?
He started work with the BBC as an investigative journalist so it seemed to be a time thing mostly.
Now, speculation on my behalf but I reckon he grew tired of metal long before the demise of the site. Never said as much but got that impression from a few exchanges we had, he just wasn't on the pulse as he would've been during the sites heyday. For me it was evident in the fact that he farmed out a lot of the reviews/content in its last few years. That's not a dig, such is life, priorities change etc.
I think, speaking of the old site it'd be great to get a physical copy of the content(or at least some of it) kinda like what Ian Glaspar did with terrorizer.
Hello everyone! My name is Lucas Yoshiyuki, and I'm here to share a relaxed chat about music. I'm a Brazilian bassist and piano enthusiast, passionate about the world of rock and metal.
When it comes to music genres, Power Metal holds a special place in my heart. The energy, exciting riffs, and epic lyrics of this style are a constant source of inspiration for me. The combination of captivating melodies and virtuosic performances in this genre truly fascinates me.
Currently, I have a PM band called Valk.
However, my passion for rock and metal extends beyond PM alone. I find inspiration in all the branches of these music genres. Classic rock, with its distinctive guitars and incredible solos, evokes a sense of nostalgia for me.
As a bassist, I admire and seek influences from great figures in the instrument. Steve Harris from Iron Maiden is one of my biggest idols. His ability to create powerful and melodic bass lines is truly inspiring. Additionally, I am also captivated by the techniques of bassists like Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers and Geddy Lee from Rush. They have a unique and innovative approach that pushes the boundaries of the instrument.
Speaking of the piano, this instrument captivates me in various ways. It allows me to explore melody and harmony in a more complete manner. I am fascinated by virtuoso pianists like Jordan Rudess from Dream Theater and Yanni, who combine technical proficiency with captivating emotional expression.
Apart from music, I am also a language enthusiast. I speak English, German, and have an interest in Japanese and French. This linguistic passion also influences my musical appreciation. Exploring music in different languages allows me to discover new artists and immerse myself in different musical cultures.
Another MI lurker here - I think my username is the same. I don't think I posted much other than being a dick when the guitarist from Avenged Sevenfold died.
Hi to all, I am one of the many Italian guys living in Cork for work and a metalhead deep in the heart.

Greetings from France. My name is Dominique. I am part of a new start-up record label called Cyanide Death Cult Records. We are aiming to specialise in signing and promoting avant-guarde black/death metal & industrial music. We are currently looking for fresh talent in these genres globally. We have heard that Ireland has a thriving underground metal scene with some bands that might fit the above criteria. If any of you have any recommendations in these genres. We are looking for bands that are similar to Forgotten Tomb, Necrot, Archgoat, Deathspell Omega, Burzum, Gallhammer, Swans, Godflesh etc. Merci beaucoup. À votre santé or slainte as you guys say!

Hey all. Wexford metalhead here. I've been a metal fan since late 86/early 87 when I was a chap. I enjoy most styles of hard rock and metal from the 70's through to the early 90's, although I do listen to newer stuff too. As far as non-metal goes, I like some early punk, hardcore and post punk, classic prog and psych-folk, and 50's rockabilly & honky tonk.
Also a fan of writers like Robert E Howard and HP Lovecraft, 60's and 70's action thrillers, classic westerns, and 80's action and fantasy, post apocalypse movies etc.
I've played bass and sung in a few bands. Nothing professional or anything. Recording a few demos with a trad doom project later this year for the craic.
I haven't been involved in a forum since the old Terrorizer forum days, where I went by the name Wretch or Wretched Metal, if anyone here was on there at any stage.
Looking forward to the banter and debate.
Howya Wretch, I was on Tez as Sol. Cosmic Equilibrium is also here occasionally. He's still Wrong About Iron Maiden.

Nice one mate, how are things? I was in touch with a few of the Tez lads for a while, met Robit at some gigs, and had a few pints with Steve in Brighton when my cousin was teaching there for a while, but I lost touch after my phone was nicked.
All good, cheers. Still in touch with a few of those lads on Facebook alright, I think Nialler is the only lad I've actually met.
This site is decent, a lot less drama.
Ah, yeah I imagine so! Still, there was plenty of craic on Tez all the same. Some very odd characters certainly!
Yeah, Nialler is sound. Just got talking to Kevin (can't remember his usernams) on Facebook yesterday, he happened to spot my name on a post by Trouble, he knew my name becuase he sent me an Electric Wizard cassette single at one stage.
Dunno who that was.
"His name was Robert Paulson."
He was only new on the forum when it wrapped up from what I can remember.
Hey guys, hope everyone's doing well. I'm a complete newbie to the Metal Forum scene. Back in my day Social Media was tape trading, writing letters and "I'll see ya outside Tommy's on Saturday". I've been around the Dublin scene for years though and played in a number of bands in that time. My musical tastes float in and out of various styles and at the moment I'm listening to a lot of 80s Punk and Thrash stuff. Going back to my youth you could say. Anyway, I hope to get involved with posting and contribute plenty of thoughts. Looking forward to getting to know you all and a summer full of decent gigs.

Been a lurker here for a while but trying to get away from the big social medias, spending way too much time doom scrolling there, want to doom scroll here instead.

Main thing for me is melodic death metal, technical death metal and thrash, but love a bit of everything except for folk, that's gay

You're obviously a Revocation fan, heyyo! I only got into them on their last album, and became completely obsessed with them.
Yeah man, took that shot when I saw them in Bristol a year or two ago, skipped the Dublin show to make a bit of a city break out of it .
Best album for me is still deathless but every album is just incredible.
I genuinely think they are the best death metal band around today, absolutely unbelievable, Dave was also really nice and down to earth !

Nice! I took a guess that Deathless was your fave from your name
Netherheaven is my fave (The Intervening Abyss of Untold Aeons is one of my favourite songs ever written), but as you say, they're all golden.
I also agree that they're the best death metal band today. A buddy of mine badgered me to give Netherheaven a listen when it came out as I love me some tech-death, and all I could do was sit with my head in my hands thinking "why did I ignore them for so long?!". Death are may favourite band ever (Human to The Sound of Perseverance is my favourite run of albums, ever), but Revocation are now right beside them - I've been listening to metal since 1998, so to finally sit down to a band on their EIGHT album, and almost a quarter of a century after I first got into metal to go straight to the joint-top of the pile blew my mind a bit.
Didn't meet Dave at the Dublin show (legged it as soon as the gig ended as the drive back to Sligo is no craic at that time of night), but Brett was manning the merch stall, and had a chat with him! And he was a total gent.
Gonna stick on Great is Our Sin when Unquestionable Presence finishes here :abbath:
Might as well say hello, I was also decy on MI (been decy my whole life actually), though I didn't post much for years.
I'm regularly waffling on about missing chat about music online, I read the entire Local filth thread the other day and was weirdly nostalgic.
Having said that I probably won't post much here.
Same as meself so
Hail from Italy to everyone! :abbath:
Greetings, earthlings

Thought I'd sign up here too as I have come full circle with abhorring social media and yearning for the glory days of the old forums, and have been lurking here for a while now.
I was previously megadeth_freak on MI (and couldn't pass up the opportunity to register on a forum with a less cringy name ) so recognise a few of the older heads here too.
Live in Sydney now but still keep an eye on things on here for when I'm back home/good recommendations. 8)
Hey Darren, how's it going dude. I was only talking about you to Annik the other day and wondering if you're still out this direction. We've been in Melbourne for three and a half years at this stage. I hope Sydney is keeping you on your best behaviour 8)
Yep I remember megadeth_freak ,welcome back man
Hi folks, been browsing here on and off so decided to sign up once and for all!

Hi all :abbath:
Posted that when i was drunk.. Just finished a 9 year relationship, hi folks
Welcome...Careful Now.. We don't get drunk around here
Hello,
Was an old user of MI and stumbled across this site. I went by Nuclear-Reign... was also guitar player in Nuclear-Reign. Living in Doha, Qatar for 8 years now. Not much of a scene at all here. Hoping Metallica might stop by after announcing Abu-Dhabi and Bahrain. One can hope...
Yeah, I remember Nuclear Reign, welcome back lad/lady/other

Welcome!
What brought you to Qatar if you don't mind me asking?
Well I qualified as a teacher, couldn't get work. My wife got a job out here and so came out for her job and was able to get a job myself pretty soon after. Lifestyle is great. Lots of experiences out here that you wouldn't get at home. Been to the World cup, the F1... but no metal scene unfortunately.

Cheers.... we were, eh... we had fun I supposed. We weren't the best.
Nuclear Reign is going back a bit alright! Welcome.

Seems like yesterday, but was 18 years ago really. We played some good gigs and some terrible ones. Had ago at doing it I suppose and had fun.
Are you playing any music these days? Presumably there's some kind of scene there in Doha? Or even just playing for your own amusement?
Im teaching secondary music here and teach guitar to some ex pat kids. There is not much of a scene, mainly cover bands. Not that I would have the time anymore having my own kids to entertain.
What's up folks? Long time no see.
Pauric from Mourning Beloveth / ex-Malthusian, ex-Decayor here.
Me wanna banana.
How much are chups?

Loved Decayor back in they day, especially the thrash iteration. Remember seeing ye in the voodoo lounge and ye covered Angel of Death with an exceedingly long drum solo.
Hi all, I finally decided to sign up and join the fun after years of coming to the forum as a mere spectator. I'm originally from Portugal, but have been living Dublin for the past 7.5 years. I am into all kinds of Heavy Metal, but I will listen to anything outside of it as long as it hits the right notes for me. Looking forward to talking about music here and meeting some of you at future gigs!
How's it going just found this place and wanted to say a quick hello to everyone. I mostly listen to Black Metal and I love a bit of the old sea fishing.
Ahoy there ,Welcome aboard
Hello all. I'm B. Billy and I like Metal flavoured coffee :D
Hello. Was previously on MI but fell away from the whole online space. It might be just a post-Covid crest but it feels like metal has gained a second wind - obviously sans the metal bar socialising side of things.
Hey guys,
I am a metalhead from Ireland like yourselves.
I used to be in a band too.
I have recently written a book about (you guessed it from my username) Mental Health For Metalheads. Ed Repka did the art for it.
If anyone is interested in a self-help book by a fellow Irish metal fan, or just want to see some cool Repka art, check it out...

If anyone is in a band with mental health themed lyrics or works in the mental health field, feel free to join my community on discord or look up my patreon too, but I won't link spam them here.
I used to be in a band called Rust And Regret when I was a teenager, if anyone remembers them. Had a few reviews on Metal Ireland back in the day.
