My god the absolute state of this shit.
This should actually be in the unintentionally hilarious music videos thread.
Who the fuck does yet man think he is, he got something like 400,000 for the last fundraiser they did and all they released was a shitty album when he was going on about building his studio that he just isn't able to record an album without.
I wouldn't mind but wintersun are pretty fuckin mediocre.
Im a big melodeth fan and don't rate their albums at all bar a couple of songs.
There's plenty of orchestral sounding bands that don't need all the shit he's going on about.
Pathetic.
He's just taken to banning anyone that calls him out on his bullshit on their facebook page. Still really like the debut and Time though
Jesus that was pinful watch.. they really need to turn the sharpen image option DOWN
I see this time he waited until Alestorm have finished their new album before launching this latest begging scheme.
Hahaha another cringey video from the band looking for funds. The sad thing is that this route actually seems to be successful in making money for them. I'm not sure which is more pathetic, the videos themselves, or the fact that people willingly hand over their cash for this.
But whatever, I'm still a fan and I'll still look forward to more music from them 8)
Apaprently they did one before a few years back which basically was their fans giving them money to buy macbooks for 'more ram' or some shite. 3 years since they released something.. hilarious stuff though
255 patrons @ a tenner a month
At least 2 of them look like you're paying for their medication and/or legal fees.
Diminishing returns with a risk of never getting anyone to support your future work. Hopefully Wintersun will be a good case study for future musicians on how not to take the piss.

This took some googling to get to the bottom of! Apparently I'm way out of touch with whatever the kids are listening to these days...
WinterScab. They come across as creepy as fuck. Especially that Jari knob.
Anyone who donates to that shitshow now deserves a shlap.

i was thinking the exact same thing watching that.
That was nasty to watch alright. Give us money to hear our cast off songs, watch live shit that's on YouTube and watch us play video games.
That was actually so lame I want to jump out the window. I fucking hate that type of music so much as well. So completely devoid of any balls. Get some exclusive nerding off videos about what pedals we use. What's the much much more as well. Maybe they send you some of their piss

They're trying to charge people for the type of material thats usually used to help GET fans.
Playthrough videos, gear walkthroughs, live video's and such are usually used to promote bands, not as material to sell to fans for money.
Unfortunately I see more and more of this happening as time goes on with bands who already have a loyal enough fan base. I know a few Irish artists(not metal) who are going this route and Patreon is proving to be VERY lucrative for them.
I couldn't be arsed starting a new thread for this so just said I'd stick it here.
I seen the vocalist from the gathering and devin Townsend. Anekke something is offering to do guest vocals for bands now that she can't tour and is charging 1250 per song.
Seems very pricey to me.
I priced another well known vocalist who's a lot better than her imo and he was only looking at 500 per song.
Awful expensive and she's not that great a vocalist to warrant that price.
It is a sad turn of events that the artistic integrity goes out the door when times are tough. So even if you have any oul shit song she will be on it for the right price. I wouldn't be in any way surprised if Devin himself was next on it.
I'm not really knocking her either in one way because needs must but it be rock bottom for an artist

She said she'll only do one song a month, and only for songs she personally likes. It still seems pricey to me, but I've no clue on what the going rate is for these things so for all I know it could be a good deal
While I have absolutely nothing against metal bands doing well by being good at what they do, touring and selling merch etc, this kind of "professional artiste" shite gets my goat. The hand wringing, woe is me crap bordering on emotional black mail that bands harp on about is comical. Are these retards too stupid or too precious to do a bit of real work if they are stuck for cash?? I think it's so fucking weak. I have no sympathy or respect for that carry on at all. And as for artistic integrity? Don't get me started.
Can you even imagine the conversations these delusional, pretentious dickheads have when the cameras aren't rolling?

when your charging 1250 per song it is.
like i mentioned already i quoted another guy for guest vocals on an album and he was looking for 500 per song which is very reasonable. that was for a full song so he said it would be less if its just parts.
and hes a much better vocalist than her imo.
They're not just session artists, they're also selling the cred and notoriety which comes with their name attached. The "mop the sweat off the stage" band whose name escapes me, they were milking those Paradise Lost and Cradle of Filth connections for all they were worth. If you're going to be milked like that, you might as well get paid for it. Same for the band paying, having whomever on attached to you can open doors, get you clicks, etc, which you might never have gotten before just being a bunch of ugly cunts from Louth or wherever. It's fair game, I reckon.

Their album was actually quite good!
I don’t like PL or COF so I was not their target market either way
I wasn’t having a dig, was just using them as an example but you can apply it to any local band paying to attach a big name as a performer, mixer, masterer, whatever. They’re not just paying for the professional service, they want the kudos associated with the name, too.
Wintersun, to clarify, are a bunch of lazy shitehawks, without doubt, but if there are dopes who will subsidise their kind of shit, well they’d be thick not to exploit it. It is creepy as fuck, though. At least the others are selling a professional service. Wintersun are just saying “I don't fancy getting a job, will you pay for me to not have to work?” Creepy.

ya exactly. i still think anneke's price is way too high but at least you are getting something out of it.
Wintersun are asking for money for things most bands just give away for free anyhow!
Jari must have one hell f an ego, and he seems like a creepy fucker anyhow judging by those videos.
oh and ensiferums first album is miles better than anything winthersun have ever done imo
They might not have had as much uptake if they called the campaign "Will you work so I don't have to?"

Now Fear Factory are straight up begging for money to record their album:
https://www.gofundme.com/f/fear-factory-regenerate?utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=customer&utm_campaign=p_lico+share-sheet
Who's even in FF these days? Bunch of shitehawks.
Last I heard Cazarez and Bell had fallen out, prior to that they were one side of a lawsuit against Herreras and Wolbers over use of the name. So fuck knows.
Burton has come out saying its a scam to pay Dinos legal fees. They may as well just call it a day, pretty obvious none of them can stand each other
Fear Factory haven't had a decent release since Demanufacture. Prob guilty of putting out more crap than Machine Head even
Blah blah blah I'm Fear Factory give me money:
Quote"This is to address some of the controversy regarding the FEAR FACTORY GoFundMe page. It is not a scam. All donations go toward covering newly incurred production costs and not anyone's personal legal fees.
"On the previous version of the album recording, which was completed in 2017, it had programmed drums. I decided to not make that mistake again and had Mike Heller perform live drums on the record. I later realized I needed to re-track guitars and bass to fit better with the live drums. I also decided to add new keyboards from Rhys Fulber, Damien Rainaud, Igor Khoroshev, Giuseppe Bassi and Max Karon.
Damien Rainaud took over production duties for all this, and Andy Sneap is also handling the mixing and mastering. They all did an amazing job on 'Genexus', and I decided to bring them back for the new album. Burton's lead vocals, which were also recorded in full in 2017, will remain on the new version of the album.
"FEAR FACTORY has exceeded its limit in borrowing money from the record company to complete the new version of the album. For this reason, and this reason only, a decision was made to ask for outside donations."
Fear Factory would like to thank everyone for there continued support.
Essentially Cazares is rerecording everything bar the vocals. Presumably to avoid paying anyone.
Still doesn't come out of that looking great. So he decided to redo loads of the album, start a crowdfund for it, and presumably didn't tell Bell about any of it
I know he was on the winning side of the lawsuit over use of the name, reading between the lines Bell has fucked off and he's gonna use his demo vocals on the album because it wouldn't sell otherwise. He's used up all of the label advance already so he's got his hand out.
At the risk of appearing a tad insensitive, is celebrity begging now a normal, accepted practice? Stevie Lee, bit-part star of a multi-million dollar movie dies and his family
have to beg for money to bury him? With big Dino, he
really doesn't have the money to fund his own album recording or he just doesn't fancy putting his hand in his pocket in case it doesn't recoup?
QuoteHe died unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, his family confirmed on a GoFundMe page set up to help cover his funeral costs.
Stevie Lee Richardson appeared in the third big-screen outing for Knoxville's hit TV show, which saw a group of friends play dangerous stunts on each other.
The movie topped the US box office 10 years ago, with opening weekend takings of $50m (£31.4m).
I do recall being pretty surprised to see Allan Holdsworth's kids doing a GoFundMe for his funeral a few years back.

Yep, Archetype is right up there with Demanufacture, really enjoyed Mechanize too. Genexus was decent enough but very safe
I'm also in the Archetype fanclub, plus whatever one Gene Hoglan played on.
Archetype is their best since Demanufacture, despite being rawer in production terms it's pretty close to it in style. I haven't spent much time with the last 3 TBH, Transgression was so bad that I didn't bother with them for years.

So a band that formed two months ago, hasn't played a gig, doesn't even have any music released, needs a grand for pressing merch. Is this honestly how young bands think this is how things are done these days?

I think €1500 is reasonable enough.
He must have came down a bit.
How is €1500 reasonable for a guitar that was around €1000 new?
It's a reasonable level of arm-chancing. I'd pay €500 above original cost for, say, a Blackmore owned strat; yer man's just hoping there's someone out there feels the same way about him! :abbath:

Ah right I thought they were €2000 new....
As a side note I just found out that he quit Evile and the live music scene a few months ago due to health issues and wanting to be a family man. His brother is taking on the vocals for the new album. I guess that's why he's selling his guitar. That's sad :'(

60 quid a month subscription to a band and judging from that article you get next to nothing for it, like it's not as if the band are going to write and release albums that only the subscribers can listen to.
Have they tried onlyfans?
I think they are their only fans.

He's got 150 odd people paying a tenner a month on Patreon. He's down a 100 subs from since the start of this thread a couple of years ago. I'm sure he's weeping into his sauna as we speak
It seems like the bauld Jari finally got the finger out, and TIME II is scheduled for release at the end of August.
He threw up a video on Youtube talking about what he's been up to and where the crowdfunding money went. The basic gist of it is:
- Raised 464k but only got 200k after fees, taxes and expenses (?)
- Didn't get to build their planned Wintersun HQ big studio (no sauna I'm guessing )
- They settled to buy a space and build a "semi-studio" instead, and straight away started working on writing FOUR (!?) different albums
- Finished Time II
- They still want to build their dream Wintersun HQ
So the pre-order for TIME II went online (with a similar American style tv sales commercial cringe) and reached its goal of €100,000 in just 12 hours. It's currently over €200,000 :-[
The new "Time Package" comes with the album, an instrumental version, an isolated tracks version, a singles version (?) and a "Dynamic version" with a different mix. It also comes with a remastered version of Forest Seasons and 5 HOURS of unreleased early demos written from 1992-2000, but with a modern recording. Digital release only for €50. Doesn't currently seem to be a CD release for somebody who just wants the album like
Anyway, he didn't throw up any tracks, just a few clips of songs here and there from the album and from the demos:
Have to say, all twattery aside, I think those clips sound decent. I won't be paying 50 squids for multiple versions of the album that I don't need, but I am looking forward to listening to those songs in August. Those demo clips sound good too, Ensifernum buzz.
Four more albums currently in the works, will their new studio make a difference in getting them out faster? At their current output rate, Jari would be in his 70's when the fourth one comes out
The demos would have me tempted, since apparently its all stuff he's had from the 90s/early 00s which might mean it's more in the style of the first album or early Wintersun
But there's no way I'm paying out for just a digital copy
Just copped that one of these lads is currently with Megadeth
And the other two are with Nightwish!

Just seen this on YouTube, it's an album worth of material recorded in the late 90's, more of an Ensifernum vibe to it apparently. I haven't listened to it yet, but the people in the comments are saying it's better than Time II
