All joking aside this could have one of the lowest turnouts for Slane since it's inception.

Slane is for the lay community and nothing about this bill will appeal to them. Metallica would pull 20-30k here absolute max. The organizers have done nothing to make an event out of this, Ghost are relatively unknown here (Look on the Facebook page to see the amount of troglodytes asking who the fuck they are) and adding Stiff little fingers will achieve what exactly???

Bon Jovi had one of the worst turnouts here in recent times, much less than 50k. I'd expect this one will do even less.

Metallicas core fan base are predominantly metal heads, but   there seems to be a total lack of enthusiasm within the metal  community for this show.So the organisere are banking on event junkie day trippers to fill the place.

I know more metal heads going to the Cure the same day.

Been about 10 years I think since I last saw them and would have considered this if it was in practically any other venue in the country. Instead I'm going to stick on Live Shit and have a rake of cans

Same as that, I know more metalheads including myself going to the Cure, bad planing by MCD having the two gigs on the same day did they not expect cross-over in fans....

Can't be as many pricks there as ACDC at Aviva!! Jesus

Just looking up past lineups, Ignore the type of act and just consider the pulling power.

The year Bon Jovi Played was a washout, the bill was just as thick as this Metallica one. Bon Jovi + Coronas + Bressie + Ham Sandwich

I'd say you're literally looking at 35-40K for this at best. A far cry from the numbers pulled a few years ago for GNR or any of the above examples.

The Verve, forgot about how big those cunts were!.Yeah some of those line up are massive in terms of pulling crowds.

Metallica bill job have never worked here in my experience, A lot of Metallica fans are Metallica fans and thats where their association with Metal stalls. Only have to look at social media comments who are Ghost?, why can't we have the bands like on the US tour or Oz?, (Avenged/Slipknot) well when they actually toured with them here the stuff attributed to Ghost was the same for those at the time, probably by the same people asking for those bands now . AIC were another reluctance when they played with them in the RDS and now sold out and played one of the gigs of the year Monday I hear.

I was at that Rolling Stones day, raining and think the Stones themselves pretty much curated the bill, this bill is nowhere near as bad as that one.

Stereophonics did it too not sure they were a crowd puller though, heard Nickelback blew everyone of stage that day (not even joking).

Giggles clearly from the greater Longford/Leitrim area. Has his sack of economy larger at the ready.

I grew up about 15 mins from Slane Castle and I live in Donegal. Takes me a lot longer to get home after an average Dublin gig than it would take you to get home from Slane, but I'm not on here whinging about it at every available opportunity.

I can understand the lack of enthusiasm for this gig within the metal community. I've seen Metallica a bunch of times, last time was 10 years ago and I said I wouldn't bother seeing them again. I'm only going this time to eat a bunch of drugs in a field with my childhood friends and piss off some townies  :abbath:

Oh, and I don't drink economy lager, I drink Tesco vodka  ;)

Actually one thing that pissed me off about the GNR gig was the alcohol ban in the village. And I heard of the garda stopping buses and lifting peoples cans. That's shite craic.

Fair play to them!

I'm camping for this, I did the same at GnR last year and said it was the only way i'd ever go back. Head down friday, back sunday, no traffic in or out. Lineup is absolute shite though, no interest in ghost or the other bands whatsoever so cans in the campsite til just before Metallica are due to come on and stroll to the venue. No-one I've heard is even considering going to this of the people I know, and i'm going with 3 mates who don't listen to metal. I'm kinda hoping the numbers are terrible for this because Gnr was a bit overwhelming and so badly organised.

I haven't been to Slane since 1998 - I went only to see the Manic Street Preachers (I saw them in Cork Opera House the night before and I got offered a free ticket/spin to the Verve gig where they were supporting). Watched a bit of John Squire play guitar for The Seahorses to a disinterested crowd. As soon as the MSP finished, we were out of there and back on the road to Cork. I've never had the desire to revisit the place.

I'm not a fan of enormo-gigs any more but The Cure is where I'd be.

Metallica will be kick off their set before it gets dark, won't they? That'll severely affect Ghost's stage show - I imagine.

At 1800hrs all that make-up and smoke will just look like a few dead guys having a BBQ.

"At 1800hrs all that make-up and smoke will just look like a few dead guys having a BBQ."

Ha Ha!

I'm heading to this  :)
Looking forward to it tbh
I'm preparing myself mentally for the dose of getting there, etc
But looking forward to the show, craic, beers

Haven't been there since FNM and GnR in the 90s!

Unlike the rest of Metal Ireland 2.0 it seems I'm looking forward to this. Been obsessed with Metallica for more than half my life now, and I've managed to cover myself in a nice layer of delusion, convincing myself it will be good
