Id have to disagree,McCarthy was stealing a living as Irish manager,We beat Gibraltar and Georgia in that campaign?,was it?.He was paid just shy of €3m for that Campaign, not his fault ,but no manager of Ireland should be getting anywhere near that.

Ya but Paul, he stuck to the old reliables for that campaign cos it was more likely to be a "safer" option. If he had a longer term he could have taken more risks with players and got them to play a bit of ball. In hindsight that campaign looks really bad but he was only hired for that one quick fix to qualify us.
Kenny may not be the answer, but we need to move away from dinosaurs managers too.

Absolutely.

Was gonna say a friendly with Qatar is just the ticket but they beat Azerbaijan and Luxembourg! in their last 2 friendlies so could be another shitshow. O'Doherty and Stevens out. O'Doherty has been poor overall and Stevens is no loss with his shit passing.

Richard Dunne bang on the money here. You need to set up to get the most out of the players you have, not try to impose a system that should work if only you had the players to make it work. That's management. We have structural issues but should still be able to take on and beat a minnow country like Luxembourg. A properly drilled team playing within their capabilities is well capable of beating them at home.

Was actually listening to it in the car this evening, very knowledgable guy and as you say spot on

There was absolutely nothing wrong with this style of football. Well drilled, effective, passionate. But of course the fantasy football bunch know better.

Well drilled for sure, but didn't much of any style of football, that's just an example of a team under the kosh for 90mins. Granted we got lucky.

Watched that Jack Charlton documentary. Great stuff. No disputing the success he brought but he really did not like ball playing lads. We could do with a Dave O'Leary now. And Paul McGrath, what a legend.

John Aldridge, despite his Liverpool thing, was my favourite player of the period in an Irish shirt. He's a gas man too, 'we'd wear bin liners inside our kit on training every Wednesday'

'Why'?

'Ten pint Tuesday' :)

Basically the difference between Tuchel and Lampard, and it shows in the results

Ah come on,you know full well games like that against the world champions any fancy stuff goes out the window.Great night but we were fuckin haunted.

I could put up 20 clips from games against the likes of ,Wales,Denmark,Bulgaria,Gibraltar,Georgia, etc etc where we were utter dog shit using the same tactics.

No one is saying we want total football, especially against top sides,we just want to see something that resembles football some times, its not much to ask for.

I get you want kenny gone, but championing the utter shit we've had to put up with for the last 15  years isnt right either.A balance can be struck but its going to take time.

Dreadful, I know it was a friendly but Christ almighty.

Brian Kerr is some gimp. Match wasn't great either but that seems to be a feature of soccer in general lately

What do we all make of the Euro Super League? My own view is that there is no need for it but I'd be interested to see what anyone else thinks
