Ah the coach. The two legged variety, not the multi wheeled one.

Quote from: Emphyrio on December 08, 2022, 12:33:25 PMBonus points if Santos kept Ronaldo on the bench for said final. Imagine his face.

No, he starts, Argentina go 1-0 up without any Messi involvement in the goal. Ronaldo gets subbed with ten minutes to go, his replacement scores twice, and then Messi misses a last minute penalty. Imagine both their faces.

bye, bye Brasil, dancando lambada.....

I REALLY loved Argentina all my life. Caniggia is the best ever. But hate them in recent years. They got a bit of an English attitude, thinking they're a god given, undisputed designated best in the world. Sore losers midgets too, on top of it.
But have to be fair to Brasil, I really do think no other country could match their raw talent.

Caniggia played for Rangers so he's dead to me.

I used to love Argentina too, after I got the video of the 86' World Cup when I was a boy (still by far the best documentary on any World Cup), but now? Nah. Croatia have a good chance.

Couldn't help laughing when the Serb fans audibly chanting upi shiptare (kill the Albanian)at Xhaka and Shaqiri, although they were saying the square root of fuck all at the end. I've been at the Red Star Belgrade stadium a few times and when the ultras get bored they begin ordering the rest of the stadium to get on their feet, and whoever doesn't is an Albanian. Everybody obeys.

I see your point regarding Caniggia, but I forgive that guy for all of his shortcomings  8)
Can't recall watching the documentary on the 86 world cup, but can vividly remember watching it religiously while it was happening. I loved Mexico at that time, Hugo Sanchez was my fave player and the reason why I started supporting Real Madrid.
Croatia will be an outsider at this stage of the cup, no matter who'll they be playing against. But I do agree there's a chance for the positive outcome against Argentina.
I am so tired of all the nationalistic shit, have to tell you, from all sides involved.

Here is the '86 documentary, complete with the dulcet tones of Michael Caine to accompany you in your enjoyment.

As regards the nationalistic shit (and this goes for ridiculous displays of petulance from professional footballers etc), seeing grown men behave like children is fascinating to me. It's sometimes highly entertaining :)

Thanks for the link, I might give it a go when having a slow shift at work.
Fuck, I had to google petulance. It sounds like a word used in Doom lyrics.

It's interesting to see the contrast of Michel Platini in 1986, possibly the most elegant player of the time, impossibly good looking, a pure French swagger about him, chatting in Italian to his German counterpart etc etc and how the cunt turned out. A corrupt, money grubbing cave troll. I guess the fannies dried up so he needed to compensate.

Ahh, dunno......you shouldn't be surprised. Being a great player and educated doesn't prevent you from being a cunt. One of the biggest Croatian players, Suker made it to his own level of cuntiness.
I loved that '86 cup, by the way. I might be remembering it through the pink tainted glasses, but......the defenders were still not butchers at that time. '90 cup was when things started changing rapidly. Maradona was massacred that year. Have a feeling that strength and physique started taking over raw talent from '94 on.

The Danes kicked Francescoli up and down the pitch in '86. And that Elkjaer? All elbows and big boots, a beast of a striker.

But you are right, Laudrup, Enzo F, Socrates, Platini, Maradona, Barnes etc. Golden generation there.

A lot of people speculate about how well Yugoslavian national teams would have been if what happened didn't happen. Were they that good in 90? They beat Spain but they also got hammered by Germany. Stojkovic and the best player to ever smoke cigs Prosinecki etc. A Croatian (or was he half Croatian)who won the European cup playing for Crvena Zvezda Beograd. I think our grandkids grandkids will be old men and aliens will have landed before that ever happens again :)

I was hoping it'd go to extra time cos that was very enjoyable. All games in the quarters were to be fair.

I'm small minded enough to be unable to relax until they've been sent homewards (tae think again). England winning the World Cup just doesn't bear thinking about.
