Pretty depressing these days here. Same bands seem to be palying same venues. Saxon,  Napalm Death, weak enough Siege. Primordial same show as last time almost. Dolans have very little metal fare on also it's a bit fkn depressing.

Jesus man; no posting before the coffee gets to work

Depends what you're into. I've got Archspire, Igorrr, Eyehategod, Saor, and Green Lung lined up before the end of the year

Not too bad in Dublin.

This year I have seen headline shows from:
Blackbraid (first time)
Fear Factory
Cryptopsy (first time)
Hed (PE) (first time)
Baest
Clutch (first time)

With upcoming shows before end of year from Ereb Altor (first time), Archspire (first time), Igorr (first time), Eyehategod & Wormrot, Harakiri for the Sky (first time), Saor.

Plus 1 to 3 support bands from each gig.
I can't speak for Limerick of course, but it does seem that most tours only go to Dub and Bel for logistical reasons.

But yeah, Ireland is a small market and the physical location is not ideal for bands, so a cheap flight to Manchester or London is probably your best bet for more shows. (Damnation festival in Manchester is excellent and not an expensive weekend away).

Also for anyone here - please go to gigs, most tickets are not that expensive, even if you're not mad about the headliner (usually one of the support acts is good anyway), it's beers & metal which beats sitting at home watching TV.
Some of the attendances  I have seen for famous acts in a city of 1.5m population are depressing. Cryptopsy only 2/3rds filled Whelans for example

There's been plenty in Limerick but depends on personal taste.Bad Reputation always have shows.
I have though that bigger bands seems to skipping here or else aren't being offered shows.
System Of A Down played London with QOTSA in the summer. That clearly woukd have sold out 3arena or Marlay Park. They aren't everyone's bag but Ghost have skipped Dublin on the last 2 album cycles but then Deftones did 2 Dublin shows this year. There's probably loads more i can't think of.

Agreed it's pretty poor especially if you aren't into local bands or nu metal shite like Fear Factory / Hed Pe etc. Overall this year has been one of the worst in terms of quality bands playing here since I started going to shows. The joys of being into metal and living in Ireland. EHG though next month at least is a very big gig for me.

90% of what DME announces these days I have never even heard of and I am pretty sure a lot of it isn't even metal. The big bands like the Cannibals, Immolation, Deicide etc. skipping Ireland year after year is very annoying. You'd have to wonder is it them not being bothered with the trip over like Meshuggah was for so many years or are the agents trying to get them here and nobody will take them.

I think all the above is true. Napalm's Paradise Lost etc here every five minutes, don't think I need to see those ever again. But there's still plenty on, I'd rather our current situation than to go back to the 90's where we were living off scraps.

I agree with micko)))))) really poor this year. Wouldnt know alot of the bands being advertised. Maybe that's down to me. Dolans have had fuck all on lately, Benediction who are a d2 death metal band the only thing recently and fuck all coming up.

Accomodation prices are what's stopped me from going to gigs. The last one I was at was Swans 3 years ago, and it's bad when €139 on a midweek night seems reasonable for a hotel stay. I don't drive so have no other choice, and it's just not worth the cost when you add in travel, food, drink and the ticket price on top of it all.

This is what puts me off going to gigs. Went to the Friday night of Metallica during the summer and felt completely robbed by the end of it. Was kinda depressing tbh.

Tickets have never been more expensive!!!
gigs in the Academy are about 40 euro, and Whelans 30 or 35.
The cost of about 4 to 6 pints of beer. Everything has gone up but I think it is still not bad.

My kids are into pop stuff and it's 100+ a gig

Fair point about travelling up & hotels, but it's true for sporting events etc, that's the downside of living outside the city

I've accepted the inflated ticket prices but definitely agree that it's been a bad year. Some of the those DME announcements leave me scratching my head. There was a time when I used to love a trip to Dublin and a session but travel/pints/hotels just leave you feeling shafted and i've massively cut back on Dublin gigs. This year it was Metallica and Deftones. Hoping for a Faith No More date next year as it takes a big act these days for me to feel ok with ripped off.

I've definitely gone to less this year, but calendar for next year looks good already Sylosis and Contention in January alone. Probably go to Napalm in March, but feck it's a lot of support acts. I'm going to Converge in Glasgow in a few weeks, had hope to see them in Munich along with Imperial Triumphant who are playing around the same time in the city, but that didn't work out. But yeah even feels like Dublin is been skipped by a lot of bands at the moment. Still going to see High on Fire in December and might pop down to Dismember Fest

The start of the year was pretty good, had pretty much a gig every month for the first few, but it quitened down a lot since then, heading to the Siege tomorrow  so looking forward to that, about bands skipping Ireland, it is obviously due to the expense of coming here, lots of the bands don't even seem to be doing as many dates across the water either, regarding the expense, few of us here in Westport generally just drive up and down to gigs so thankfully Bad Reputation have been putting on gigs in Limerick which is so handy as opposed to having to drive up and down to Dublin.
