I thought at the time the Behemoth/Amon Amarth show at King John's castle in Limerick could become a yearly 1 day metal event. It seemed to do well in terms of the numbers it drew.

Did well yes but who are you adding to that and what numbers will increase with further additions? It all gets very expensive very quickly.

Realistically to add proper numbers you're looking at levelling up in terms of bands

Who ran that Amon Amarth gig? Maybe some of the Limerick lads could shed a bit of light on whether it was worth running from the promoter's perspective

Think it was a joint gig between DME and Bad Rep?

Quote from: Dronesandtones on September 10, 2026, 04:04:06 PMTitle is a bit clunky and this has probably been discussed before, but the lack of a festival for heavier music in Ireland is a bit mad. Feel like a roadburn, damnation type of festival here would work great. I know there's a few, brilliant smaller weekender/all day type of events on the island but the lack of it on a bigger scale. Every other genre seems catered for to some degree. Seems to be a blind spot for heavier types of music when it comes to the industry over here, in general.

The problem is metal just isn't popular in Ireland. It costs extra to get bands over here due to us being an island and then when the shows come people have every excuse under the sun ready not to show up. Like I mentioned a while back in another thread on here look at the shows any other capital / big city in Europe or North America get then compare that to Dublin. When I lived in Canada one year Dying Fetus played 5 times in the space of a year yet they've only played Ireland once in the last decade. The likes of Immolation, Deicide, Cannibal etc. have skipped Ireland on every EU tour they've had over the last few years as well.

It's also not just metal, AZ was suppose to play in Dublin last week and it was cancelled due to poor tickets sales as was Dead Prez last December. Cali Agents played last March to about 25 people in Dublin while they were selling out 300 capacity venues in Europe.

Ya, joint Bad Rep and DME gig. Amazing venue but very expensive to run. You couldn't afford (literally) to run a gig that doesn't sell really well. That said, I'd love to see it used as a venue more.

Edit no idea why this is posting multiple times
