I reckon they full well the cover is shite. But also knew it would garner some attention.

Yeah they probably learned a thing or two in that regard from draugveil. Ive seen more memes going around of the cover than I have actual promo for the record.

DT don't give a f*ck

If they put out a serious cover at this stage you'd nearly get someone over to them to see if they're ok

This song, like their last few records, has some good moments, & then some that probably took 2 minutes to work on

That track sounds like a drunken Black Flag song, personally hearing some greg ginn-isms in the riffing. Love DT though.

That's the problem for me. The mystique, the atmosphere gone in terms of music and artwork. Two lads having a laugh on the piss and banging out a few tunes.

i kind of wish they'd changed their name early 2000s and left the classic Darkthrone legacy intact
i checked out after FOAD, though i'll still give new tracks a listen and get a laugh at the covers

DT are perfectly entitled to release whatever music they want under whatever name they deem fit. And by the same token, we don't have to get on board with that. Couldn't really be arsed with anything past Total Death tbh. The two lads generally come across well in interviews and I get that it's all a bit tongue in cheek at this stage, but that's not what I'm really looking for in black metal. There's a very rare breed of bands that can successfully incorporate humour and darkness into their music, I'd probably point to Type O as a good example of that.
