Next one due out on the 8th May, what an album cover  :abbath:

I've enjoyed their last few, but haven't really gone back to any of them since being released

QuoteA continuation of 2024's stellar "It Beckons Us All", "Pre-Historic Metal" is a ferocious slab of primal epics and gargantuan riffs with organic sound, graced with the ever-present permeating spirit of the '70s and '80s. This next chapter in DARKTHRONE's unyielding saga presents a vast odyssey through the sonic landscapes of thrash, black, heavy and doom metal and, adorned with a punishing and "in-your-face" guitar presence, DARKTHRONE stirs the cauldron of savage creativity with a nod to the writing methods which were indicative of their earlier works of the late '80s, but with a more refined craft.

Summarizing what the album represents, Fenriz explains: "It means that we are metal. With very loud guitars. 'Frightfully barbaric but not without finesse', I call it. We collaborated in the studio more than ever, who's playing what is still in a purple haze, but last but not least it was a sort of hardening of the arteries — we decided to tighten the tourniquet and do eight effective songs brimming with riffs instead of the airy plodding we so much enjoy usually".

A decent song which improves when Nocturno's vocals enter the picture. I reckon if they were arsed, and if they dropped the silliness, they could create a really strong black metal album again. Just a little bit of effort and they'd do it.

Fenriz having the craic again and doing drunken Tom Warrior vocals while he's at it.

Silliness is an apt term. Gone right off these. That artwork is thick

I love that description of the artwork.

Dunno, I kinda vibe with how thick and silly it all is, just a bitta craic not to be taken too seriously. Tracks cool for what it is.

Nice to hear the song is a bit more up tempo, recent albums have been solid. But that artwork is comical.

More shit that nobody needs they should have called it a day 20 years ago and finished up on the cult is alive. I am bit more interested in this live album but after reading into it, it's an RSD release so will probably be a €50 LP that will sell out everywhere instantly.

I ordered the BM box set as I only have A Blaze - Hunger and been meaning to get the rest of the BM releases just never got around to it. Looking forward to getting it as it has all of the original art, a booklet and a DVD. I also managed to get it for about €50 cheaper than most places are selling it for which was nice but even at that it's still very expensive.

Talk about tarnishing your legacy .21 albums released and out of that five are essential .just fucking stop .

Absolute drivel yet again .

Take the moniker out of the picture and what's left is a joke made by clearly talented and clearly drunk individuals who aren't even trying. This has been the case since whichever album came after "Sardonic Wrath".

I honestly think that if they wanted to they could release a really interesting and evil piece of metal again. Rather than pretending it's the 80s, if they went in for timeless darkness they could do it. It's unlikely at this stage.
