Surprised there is no thread for them (couldn't find one when I searched anwyay :-\). New album released a few days ago - probably the only thrash band who never strayed from the formula - people might say Slayer but Diabolus had some weird stuff on it. Definitely the most feral of the German three and possibly the most consistent too.... Thoughts...?

What a band! I love/like everything up to Tapping The Vein but haven't really followed anything after that, my main interest with Sodom is 'In The Sign../OBC' anyway, doesn't get any more metal than that period, visually or sonically.

In the Sign of Evil is my all time favourite EP, lost my shit when they played Burst Command at the show in Dublin with Gospel of the Horns, from memory they hadn't played it on that tour so was a ripper surprise.

Brilliant band.
I was listening to M-16 yesterday. Some killer songs. The cover of Surfing Bird is terrible.
First 4/5 albums at all classics .
They can be hit and miss but still the best of the German big 3.

I'm no exist by any means but In the Sign of Evil is fucking savage and Obsessed by Cruelty isn't far behind. Persecution Mania sounds good too so I'll have to pick it up at some stage. It's still nice and loosey goosey

Had a listen through a few of the new songs the other day.
Sounding well good, to be fair.
More Slayer than Slayer on their last 3 albums.

In The Sign Of Evil and Persecution Mania were the two I really got into back in the day, savage stuff, absolutely their finest hour(s) IMO. Code Red and Epitome Of Torture their best since for me.

the run from Obsessed (the original version - the one where they're in the lower tuning and it's filthy as fuck) to Agent Orange is fantastic, all I need by them.

Absolutely could not give a fuck about In The Sign of Evil, it's up there with INRI in terms of mediocre shite that's become massively overrated over the years

INRI also kicks hoop. What is this nonsense??

No, it doesn't. it's just very fast and they look cool. Bestial Devestation murders it.

I wouldn't have said that speed is a particularly defining factor, rather that loose but intense playing and very very catchy song writing, all imbued with total evility.

Or is that evilitiness...

The lyrics are spectacular. I'll give it that. Not to derail the thread entirely but Rotting and The Laws of Scourge are cool, INRI just never grabbed me, I dont find it catchy at all.

Anyway, Sodom - shout out for Expurse of Sodomy, that ep always gets over looked and My Atonement is a banger

They're a band I've seen loads of times at festivals and always enjoyed, never actually properly checked out their albums though

Both INRI and Bestial Devastation are unlistenably shite.

The Expurse... tracks are tacked onto most CD/tape versions of Persecution Mania, mighty stuff. The Outbreak Of Evil rerecording is sweet (I always thought that was for the EP but it was just a bonus track).

Masquerade In Blood is a ripper as well.
