My 11 year old is learning guitar and he's getting into Metallica, so he's been pestering me to bring him to a gig. I was initially thinking of bringing him to Maiden in Malahide but didn't bother getting tickets in the end. I think I'll bring him to this. I've almost zero interest myself but I think I'd never be forgiven if he knew this was on and dad didn't bring him.

There's going to be some amount of disillusioned Dads at this by the sounds of it , there should be a bar or something for ye all to go. Apathetics Anonymous.

Quote from: Carnage on May 23, 2025, 05:18:21 PMJust saw an ad for this/these on Sky Atlantic, they're really pushing it.

Every radio station in the country is running comps for it too judging by folks sharing them on insta.

Penenys printing commemorative tshirts in their sweat shops already no doubt.

Quote from: Giggles on May 22, 2025, 01:23:29 PMI don't think I'll bother with this. I've said that I wouldn't bother with Metallica again after I'd seen them in 2008 for the 5th time. But I went to see them again in Slane and was quite underwhelmed.
To be fair, I was more than halfway back in the field, and being that far from the stage is almost always a downer for me.

Gojira and Pantera are great supports, I'm sure it will be a mighty day out. Summer solstice too, I hope the weather will be cracking for ye 🤞
Is there any chance of you changing your mind?

No, sorry. I'll spend the money on other gig tickets for bands I haven't seen yet. Metallica have enough of mine!

Just listening to AJFA there and the vocals are fucking outstanding on it.

I missed Pantera and I'd like to see Gojira but I've seen Metallica 3 times and the last time they played Master Of Puppets all the way through so I think I'll skip this one tbh even though it does sound a bit tempting

So many edgelords on here, hey bro, I'm too metal for Metallica 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Don't think that's it at all really.

Metallica are legendary and I've still never seen them. I'd love to, but I'm really not too pushed about this because stadiums are absolutely terrible. Any venue above a certain size is really no appeal to me to be honest, it takes away from the show.

Obviously when a band gets that popular, they kind of have to play on that scale to match the demand, or they'd have to have to do insane residencies. It is what it is.

This will be a truly awful experience X 2

At least it's not Croke Park which must be the worst place to see a gig with the shitiest sound. I saw AC/DC and Roger Waters in Lansdowne Road and thought the sound was decent. It's smaller than Croker too.

I saw AC/DC in the Aviva, & the sound was muck
Saw AC/DC in Punchestown a few years before that, & the sound was great

I enjoyed Metallica in Slane
The sound was great

I think stadiums are not suited to gigs
Big open fields work for my hearing; not sports stadiums

Maybe if you're down on the pitch, but I'd imagine the sound bouncing off the stands/partial roof/etc would ruin it wherever you are

I was on the pitch for both of those gigs but I wouldn't be the fussiest person when it comes to sound though Croker has always sounded bad anytime I was there for a gig.

only two day standing tickets available in presale are  VIP 450 euro, gives you early entry apparently. Seated tickets are 275.
I'll wait for general sale

Mental fucking money. Disgusting shite. Long gone are the days where you might consider bringing your kid to see a big band live- you'd be looking down the barrel of a fuckin grand! How have ticket prices gone from £12.50 in the early 90s to this? I mean, if it was €60 it would still be steep enough but €450??? Get thyself nicely fucked.

they are for the 2 day tickets but I know what you mean, crazy price, those are the VIP ones, you get a free mug and a free drink
hopefully the general standing will be available on Friday, not sure what price they will be but seats for the 2 day pass are 275. Was tempted to buy them as there was two nice ones together on lower stand but I really want standing tickets so I can go for pints and a piss without annoying lads sitting beside me.
