I've no care for the inevitable Morbid Angel/I Am DAvid scenario of this kind usually but would 100% go see them if they're leaning into stuff off the early Eps and "Flower"/"Swans" for sure, given that shit is some of the greatest metal ever made in my book and it's most of the line up of that era.

Very interesting. I wonder if they could capture any of that old magic on a new record. The MDB production values became way too washed out and soft sounding for me so if they could get that dirty bite back in the mix I would be a happy bunny.

Songs Of Darkness... would be where the classic run ends for me, I'd rate it as highly as The Dreadful Hours. I don't think they've done a bad album (Turn Loose The Swans is the only one I don't like but I know I'm very much on my own there) but the quality definitely dipped after SODWOL.

Maybe the new guy will prove us all wrong (if they record with him) but Stainhope was so unique that I doubt it - especially going by the few recent live clips I've seen.

Agree with this, always enjoyed up until SODWOL (terrible album title). Hopefully this reincarnation of sorts will hit our shores with a gig!!

SODWOL was the end for me. It was awful. I haven't listened to it since it came out (I got the edition with the bonus fridge magnet    ) so perhaps it deserves a revisit, but I remember hating the weak, wishy- washy guitar sound. That sounds seemed to become their trademark after that so I just avoided everything until The Ghost of Orion which had a decent production,  but the songs didn't hold my attention! I recently revisited The Dreadful Hours, an album I was obsessed with when it came out, and struggled with the production on it. It marked the beginning of the wishy-washy guitar tone era, but the songs are good enough to carry it through.

I really hope Towards The Sinister go for something more brutal and ugly sounding, like the Trinity style. But that fucking AI generated logo already has me worried for their sanity.
