Choon. Yeah it's pop but it's fucking great pop. Surprised even that Wilt didn't get farther than they did...

Edit: Amazing actually what 3 whacks of a snare will do for a tune. Reminds me of the shit Jimmy chamberlain was on about on youtube

Only just realised listening to that song how much like Michael Stipe Cormac sounds.

Yknow I thought that in the verses as well!

Quote from: yknaa on May 09, 2024, 10:20:30 PMWow! Wilt is some blast from the past for me. Bought Bastinado back in the day. Remember really liking it. Few songs like Radio Disco probably still stand up.

Bought "Bastinado" and a few singles when I saw Wilt live in Sir Henry's way back when. "Radio Disco", "Peroxatine", "Ex-Pedestrians" and possibly "Working For The Man" are the only tracks that really hold up.

Wilt were a much better live band than anything they ever laid down on tape.

They were supported by Turn from Kells on one occasion too - (anyone remember them? Solid Pixies/Pumpkins loud/quiet alt-rock, Ollie Cole from Swampshack was the frontman - good debut and follow up EP - bass player left to join Idlewild).

Oh man, Turn... the lad who ran my local back in the day was mad for them and he had them what felt like every other week. "Baretta" was a banger of a tune, mind.

He also was obsessed with The Smashing Pumpkins, so I never bought any of their albums until 2010 or so.

That was great craic anyway until I puked my ring out when I got home.

Great venue dunno why more bands don't do a night there. Sound was great, band were tight and I'm genuinely surprised at how well his voice has held up over the years. Don't think there was anyone under 30 at it either.

Heading to the Dublin gig next month. Looking forward to it. Did they play the entire first album from start to finish?

No they didn't. They mixed it into the set and played pretty much both albums in full, which I think worked well given the mid paced nature of the debut. I was really surprised at how decent the gig was and how long they played for. Here's the screenshot from setlist fm:

That's brilliant, thanks for the set list. glad they mixed it up. Really looking forward to this now. Never got to see them before, but them 2 albums were massive for me back then. Gave them a spin recently and I'm still enjoying. Cheers.

Yeah I'd never seen them before either ands still enjoy both albums, although the second one a lot more.

The Belfast gig is coming up on Saturday, anyone have a vague idea of stage times? It's in LimeLight 2 and there is a club night so curfew could be early? Pretty sure when I was up for Slomatics last year it was all done and dusted by 21:00...

Want to get the bus back to Dublin and it looks like it's 21:00, 21:10, 21:20 and then a jump to 23:00

I vaguely remember seeing them at Feile 94. Maybe lunch time with sun shining and stadium mostly empty.

You would be right on that count. I saw them at that as well.

Just coming round after the Dublin gig last night. Really enjoyed it, exceeded my expectations. Sound was great, band full of energy, and as said before great vocals. Full house also sold out. Was a few young ones at it and they were well into it. Great night. Believe the setlist was similar to above so was perfect.
