Well, that's that done. Presumably been 30 years since last/first watch  Not a good movie by any stretch of the imagination, even if it does have some things going for it. But the entire depiction of Dredd, including Stallone's portrayal, is just farcical Hollywood action movie schlock. Mainly has made me want to rewatch the Karl Urban one again.

Ye might be right about the aesthetic side of things, but the Karl Urban version is far superior, even if it shamelessly rips off The Raid. Yeah, and Spawn was an absolute travesty as well. Hands up who bought the soundtrack? I'm fairly sure i have a copy floating about the attic in Cork.

Dredd was filmed before The Raid. Released after because the post-production took a while.

The Stallone Judge Dredd was awful, Hollywood shlock. Hammerstein (to give him his proper name) and the Angels aside, bin it.

Spawn was dogshit.

Ah fair enough so. It's all academic really, loved The Raid so anything in the same vein is OK with me, coincidental or otherwise.

The Urban Dredd was superb, how the fuck it didn't do better at the box office defeats me

I could be wrong but I think Dredd was mainly released in 3d which put people off it. Nearly certain that's why it did poorly. Could be wrong on that though.

Saw it 3D at the time and it was amazing for the time slowed down scenes

Judge Dredd (1995) 2 stars, Dredd (2012) 4 stars.

The latter with the kind of set design budget the former had, and you've got a good shot at 5 stars. Urban's Dredd is class, cool af. Just watched it again now.

It was mix of the 18 cert, 3d fatigue, bad distro and the fact that there was a DVD quality screener up a week before or after depending on where you were located.

Went to see Obsession yesterday after the daughter gave me the heads up on it. One of the better modern horror movies I've seen, has a really depressing atmosphere to it that was interesting, and the last act really ramps it up. The main actress in it is phenomenal as well, absolutelly unhinged. Kind of a Martyrs vibe to the whole thing, although nowhere near as extreme.

The guy who wrote and direceted it is apparently doing the Texas Chainsaw Massacre - not a thing I think we need at this point, but going on this I'd say he'll at least have an interesting spin on it. I said that about Faces of Death though and that was a stinker so we'll see.

Sae the trailer for the new Evil Dead before it. Have to say, looked pretty shit.

Watched a strange new film called The Plague last night, thought it was a horror going in and instead it was a very good, if not very depressing, thriller/drama.

Watched Saipan tonight. Éanna Harwick was great in it, but most of the rest of the casting was shite, not credible at all. So, couldn't really get into it, certainly not the scenes Roy wasn't in.
