Crystal Lake was brilliant. I enjoyed it more than the movies, which have aged poorly enough. Finished great.

Quote from: Sworntothecans on October 19, 2026, 10:32:48 AMCarrie just had a habit of sweeping the leg on itself anytime it did something good, either padding it out with silly side plots and needle drops, which is a shame as there's a lot of good in it.

But Flanagan's obviously gotta give Amazon the ratings so he can get as much of the cheque book for The Dark Tower. Which is why he's helping out on the  Warhammer series too.

Crystal Lake is pretty good so far, they've made good use of shooting in the original locations and there's some great practical gore.

I did not know he was doing The Dark Tiwer. This is great news.

That's what got him to Amazon, Netflix passed on it as it was gonna be expensive as fuck.

I didn't know that was Flanagan. I will watch it for sure

Terminal List season 2. It's like something Pete Kegsbreath puts into chat gpt when he's had his trt and wants to have a wank.

Started into East Of Eden on Netflix. Holy fuck. It's off to a great start.

It's very good.

Two episodes in. It's magnificent stuff.

I found it kept the quality up from start to finish.

Have the book but haven't cracked it to either.

We've had a wash out of a weekend so I've been binging on East of Eden the past two days. I think I've just finished episode 6... or maybe 7. So bloody good. A proper epic.

Rewatching S2 of The Rings of Power before S3 lands on.

Crystal Lake was great overall aside from a few missteps. All hail practical gore!

I thought the first three episodes of East of Eden were excellent but it got a bit hammy after that, found the oriental guy very inauthentic or too wholesome or whatever, jesus man get out there and live your own life.  I didn't like any of the characters overall which hamstrung it for me as I'm more character over plot in my viewing or reading.

Interesting. You're right about the characters not being particularly likeable, but that's par for the course with Steinbeck. His people are hard, and further hardened by fucking hard circumstances, so you have to apply a level of sympathy or empathy. I get what you mean about the Chinese dude, and I can't help but wonder if he has been made more wholesome for the modern audience who get to see an "alternative" and feel-good (relatively speaking) modern family unit, or is it some backwards, old times scenario where he is essentially a slave. I'll have to read the book after I've finished watching it and see how closely they have kept to the original. I'm enjoying it immensely either way. Cathy is a great character. She is stone cold, a natural psychopath who has used her facility for complete self-centredness to win in a world very much not designed to allow women, or most people in general, to win. She is deliciously hateful  8)
