Volbeat are nobodies with a nostalgia support and a band that are here regularly. I heard 1700 people which is amazingly bad.

One security guard that was down there told me 1200 but I'll go with the first number I heard cause 1200 just seems unbelievable.

Was up at this as we were providing backline for Napalm. Was talking to Volbeats tour manager who said to me we played to 26,000 two nights ago but can only sell 1,800 tickets for this. He says the U.K. and Ireland aren't good for them. Be interesting to know who those U.K. shows went.

I didn't think the sound for Napalm was as bad as been made out. But it was odd as fuck seeing them there. The pit thing was stupid.

1. First of all, whoever thought it was a good idea (band or organiser FUCK YOU) to erect a giant barrier just so you can have your "golden circle" or "snake pit" you can go jump off a fucking mountain. The barrier was right in the middle of the standing area and took away from any type of atmosphere. God help you if you were under 5 foot 9 and spent 50 euro to peer over a giant black barrier.  I expect these things to be a marquee event for bands like Metallica or slayer - not in the 3 Arena for fucking Volbeat. You could see Barney from napalm probably thought this was the biggest load of bullshit ever.

2. The sound was fucking atrocious for Napalm Death. Again because the barrier was so far away from the stage it limited the sound of the band. Nobody was in that shitty pit for Napalm so they'd barely any crowd to feed off of.

3 Skindred really put on a great show.

4. Never really been a big fan of volbeat but they were ok. Left halfway through as I got bored.

All in all the shittiest gig I've been to in a while all because the promoter or band wanted to squeeze a few more pennies out of their audience.
Lad, that barrier was there to fill space I'd say considering how abysmal the turnout for the show was. It is the worst attended gig I've ever been at in 3. The stage was brought forward incredibly so too. Kinda felt bad for the bands really. Was it a case if being too close to Xmas for people willing to go, or just not enough people in to Volbeat?

Nah lad it was definitely to sell "premium" level tickets. Pure money grab and I think they overestimated the popularity of the headliner.

have Volbeat played here before? Surly they could gage a reasonable attendance from past performances. That premium circle thing is a joke, same goes for golden circle and the fact physical tickets are no more

They surely should have known this before booking.
Album sales, regional streams, etc. would have been good indicators.

Bar this gig, I don't think I've ever seen any promotion from them here.
Except for maybe Overdrive.ie but they pretty much jump onboard for every 'big' heavy show happening in Dublin.

My sister is a big fan of Volbeat and I remember a Whatsapp message a couple of years back saying that Barney Greenway had turned up to do backing vocals on a track at a gig Volbeat did in the Olympia. The 3 Arena seems several bridges too far for them in Ireland

Went to this only for Napalm and it was shite the complete opposite of what I was expecting.

The stupid pit thing most certainly did suck all of the atmosphere out of the venue and it felt like you were outside the venue watching Napalm perform on a screen. I had a look at the Volbeat facebook page a few days ago and they have used this same pit thing for all of the shows so I don't think it had anything to do with filling the place up.

Setlist was shite as well 95% newer material but I do understand this as I would guess the whole point of this tour was to try and recruit new fans.  By the looks of the crowd I doubt many would be into Scum or Enslavement.

For the night that was in it with the frost, at €55 a ticket on top of transport and drink to see Napalm playing what just over 30mins in this type of situation it just wasn't worth it.

They'll have even less next time. Speaking for myself I wouldn't be in a rush to see them again after that bullshit.

Checked them out earlier off the back of this thread.
Fairly generic stuff, to be fair. Not the type of thing that will draw huge nembers here, at all.

Whatever about Skindred... How Napalm Death were brought onboard as openers for this tour is actually kinda mind-boggling.

Barney seems to have done guest vocals on a few of the Volbeat releases so the bands must be mates.
