Top Tier:
October Rust
World Coming Down
Bloody Kisses
Origin of the Feces

Second Tier:
Life is Killing Me
Dead Again
Slow, Deep and Hard

I like all of them and the placings are not set in stone (except OR) but there is a distinct gulf in quality between the two tiers.

Absolutely amazing and unique band and I feel a discography run coming on reading the thread. Never caught em live unfortunately but the albums keep me going well enough.

In Praise of Bacchus is my favourite tune but there's a good few close ones. So fucking heavy. And no, Slow, Deep and Hard is not shit.

I'd agree with those tiers..

It's time again.

Over the last couple of days I've been flying through it

Only October rust and world coming down left to go and I had bloody kisses on 3 times so that stalled me a bit

I've tried a few times to get into this band, like their image etc but just can't get into the music, I know I'm wrong.

Life is killing me is better than I gave it credit for.

I dunno which is recommended for someone who can't get into it though. Maybe dead again as it's a bit more upbeat.

Watch this (live @Wacken 2007) and then delve into the albums. Trust me, it'll be worth it...

I'm like a broken record but Dead Again is some album. To think Pete was 52-ish (I think) when they recorded it, and he'd found God. You'd expect that to be a recipe for bad metal but his anger and wit, and his creativity and power as a vocalist were entirely intact. If he hadn't died we could have had another two or three more incredible Type O albums by now. It still galls me.

In going to lash on dead again now. When I made the tiers I put it on the bottom but I feel bad about putting any of it on the lower tier because it's all so good

I'm also constantly disappointed that he popped his clogs, it's awful

Dead again is the album I would listen to the least of from them, couple of good tracks but that's it.

For someone asking about what they should listen to first, I would say 'October Rust' or 'BK'. Shamefully they have other albums I need to get into more, title track from 'WCD' is really cool- very much still an OR sound at that point.

My 17 year old is a big Type O fan, specifically "OR".

Thankfully she hasn't heard the first album !

Is there anything that can scratch the itch other than type o themselves? I've tried a few things but there really is nothing like it is there?

Nope. They were truly one of a kind. Their music, while having clear influences, simply transcended them and became more than the sum of their parts. Then you have Pete's presence, unique vocals and witty, dark lyrics that were unlike anyone else. Look at it on paper,  The Beatles, Black Sabbath, Sisters of Mercy and NYHC! It looks ridiculous and it took a level of real insight and skill to make it work.

I tried looking for a few different bands a while back just from the similar artists section on Metal Archives, but none of them come close. They were just so unique

Yeah, tried a bit of that type thing as well. Was even listening to Pist.On (recorded at Systems Two, produced by Josh Silver around the time of October Rust, Val Ium backing vocals, TON-aping bass sound) the other evening to try scratch the itch, and while it's sort of October Rust Lite a lot of the time, the quality of the tunes wouldn't keep me coming back like a good Type O album and it can be a bit toe-curling. Moonspell was another one but it didn't cut the mustard either. Even that covers band that lets out a tune or 2 here and there was close but no cigar (Can't remember the name of them, they had a Chris Isaak cover in TON style on youtube). Steele appears on Biohazard's Uncivilization album on a couple of pretty reminiscient tracks but yeah, fuck all doing. Sometimes the first LOA album is a bit like a cross between TON and Biohazard but it's not enough either. Steele's death left us in a bit of a Kurt Cobain situation, where there's no possible replacement although Cobain had a lot more stuff in the vaults to dig into (although admittedly most of it was in the vaults for good reason). Didn't some other band, maybe Baroness or someone? do a cover of them in the last couple of years as well but IIRC their own stuff was no comparison.
