Youtube updated, meaning ReVanced was essentially useless for me yesterday. The guide to installing/updating it has been deleted (I couldn't remember the steps/links) so here's another one if needed:

Quote from: The Butcher on April 19, 2023, 10:21:30 PMFor people with Smart TVs (this worked on my Samsung) I was able to get ad-free youtube. You'll need an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4k Max (well worth it for this!)

Install the Downloader app on the fire stick and turn on Apps from Unknown sources in the settings ->

Install SmartTubeNext app on the fire stick from Downloader app ->

Enjoy ad-free youtube  :abbath:

It's only taken me 2+ years to give this a go but I downloaded it there. I imagine it'll take a bit of getting used to and sone tweaking but big screen ad free Youtoob will be worth it.

Cool let me know if that guide still works as it's two years old at this stage! It's not perfect but free ads is a winner and also on a lot of videos it will automatically skip ads/sponsorships within videos which is a great feature  ;D

Aye, it seems to work, although there's no 'My Firestick' option in setting on my (Fire enabled) telly, took me a minute to find the appropriate menu but I got there in the end. We'll see how it goes sure.

I don't know whether anyone's had issues with ReVanced updating recently, mine went down completely the other day and nothing I did could get it running again. Gave up on it in the end and found ReVanced Extended, which seems to do the same job. I did a quick search and it seems to be safe/legit. Worth a look if you're having trouble, and much more straightforward to install:

Just started getting youtube insisting I "log in to prove you're not a bot" while running u-block origin in Firefox on a Windows system. It's preventing every video from playing. We'll see if the u-block folks can get around it over the next few days.

Maybe this is where me and you part ways, youtube

Anyone recommend some decent VPN options? Something straight forward for getting BBC iPlayer on the Fire stick

Using New Pipe as of the last week. Revanced wasn't doing its thing for me.

Ah, interesting. I'm away at the moment so won't be able to check this on my usual set up (basically same as yours) until tomorrow evening. Fingers crossed!

It turned out to be a Nord VPN issue. Even though I don't have the VPN starting up automatically, an update was starting up a VPN service which youtube was picking up, so service stopped and, all kinds of shit disabled at startup, it all works ok again.

Still using SmartTube via the firestick for the TV to skip the aul youtube ads and also using NewPipe on the phone for it, love that you can just lock your phone and listen away.

I use a free VPN just for things where I need to pretend to be anywhere other than France, e.g. for viewing things on YouTube that are blocked in France. It has previously caused problems, but mainly just lag.
