Seems to be the best one, from what I could dig up. There were more options floating around when Vanced went down a few months back, all vanished since. And apparently a dodgy version of ReVanced doing the rounds too, but I went by the guidelines here, seemed safe enough. I definitely need the idiot's guide, too:

For people with Smart TVs (this worked on my Samsung) I was able to get ad-free youtube. You'll need an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4k Max (well worth it for this!)

Install the Downloader app on the fire stick and turn on Apps from Unknown sources in the settings ->
https://www.firesticktricks.com/sideload-apps-on-firestick.html

Install SmartTubeNext app on the fire stick from Downloader app ->

Enjoy ad-free youtube  :abbath:

I have Fire built into my TV (it's a JVC, not android though), I wonder if it'd work on that?

Worth a shot, I just went with the 4k max one that the guides recommend for it!

How do you know if the firestick is 4K I bought mine in 2019 I think so I don't have boxes or booklets anymore that came with it. How does this ad-blocker work (as in performance)? I have noticed some of the apps I tried to side load on that are not suppose to be available for my region like Hulu for example kept crashing. I had that many issues with it I just had to remove it completely. Also has similar issues when I installed the BBC iPlayer.

Found this guide that said it can work for other types of Firesticks so well worth checking out to see if it works ->

https://firestickhacks.com/smartubenext-on-firestick/

Also if you want to find out which one you have (model number is engraved on the stick) ->
https://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-identify-which-model-and-version-of-amazon-fire-tv-stick-cube-edition-that-you-have-updated-2020/#stick4kmax

In terms of performance, it's been fine for me, one thing to note it has an in-built "sponsorblock" which auto-skips in-video sponsor sections, subscription reminders, channel intros, etc which has actually been pretty neat. I only sideloaded 2 apps from Downloader and they have been fine, haven't tried any other apps as I've no need for them, I'm not even using the firestick for anything else!

I cracked the other night and subscribed to YouTube Premium. The ads were severely harshening my Friday cans and gig video buzz.

It's free for a month anyway so I'll see how it goes, plus I cancelled my MUBI subscription because their film choices have gone up their own hole so my wallet isn't more or less hurt.

I have seen a lot of people saying that if you take the free month and don't subscribe after that you will get double the adds you got before once the trial ends. Personally I will never pay for premium as the whole adds thing is being done in that way to frustrate and bully people into paying for it.

I just have adblocker plus and never have ads on youtube. How is that not the same for everyone?

I had that on the old laptop actually and never had an ad. Must remember to throw it back on the new one later

Mine stopped working with Firefox. I was never a fan of Chrome, dunno whether it still works with that.

I started using ReVanced recently on the phone. A reset killed my Vanced apps. https://www.reddit.com/r/revancedapp/comments/xlcny9/revanced_manager_guide_for_dummies/ That guide was about the easiest one I saw.

For the computer I started using Brave browser. It's based off of Chromium which as far as I know almost all of them are now. But it's got great adblocking built in so you don't need to go chasing extensions to do that for you. An old MacMini connected to the TV does great for the ad free you tube.

I have it going on edge at the minute and I'm ad free again
