As if the middle east wasn't complicated enough  US might not repeat an Iraq/Afghanistan but carpet bombing for a month in Iran feels like the result will be the same - huge volatility and risk of civil war for the people of Iran. Not going to be pretty. Energy/shipping issues/costs if this is prolonged in any way.

Long-term, the Iranian regime will take any weakening of relations between Arab states and US/Israel as a win: I don't think they're thinking they might gain immediate allies for themselves.

Although... that won't stop them trying either! And again, though these are all effective authoritarian states, the vast majority of the populations, short of frontal invasion by Iran (which won't happen), will remain far more sympathetic towards Iran than towards "America/Zionism" and thereby all too willing to accept this explanation (helped along by the fact that US/Israel kicked things off illegally):

Trump's already said that, as long as it's a version of it that dances to his tune, he doesn't care if the current regime stays in power (in other words, if it wasn't already clear, he couldn't give a flying fuck about the welfare of the Iranian people). But if Bibi is as hell-bent on regime change as he appears to be, this could be contributing to suspicions. Will the circle-jerk turn into a circle-backstab?

The American planing seems to have gone no deeper than cutting the head off the snake and hoping to trigger a popular uprising. There is no further strategy beyond this. After two weeks, this is absolutley clear, I would say. Without an uprising, the Americans have no idea how to get out of the situation they Israel have initiated, but did not take into account the consequences of.

In response, Putin announced "I want to confirm our unwavering support of Tehran and our solidarity with our Iranian friends. Russia has been and will remain the Islamic Republic's reliable partner."

Russia has been accused, by the UK defence secretary no less, of providing intelligence and helping Iran identifying American and Israeli targets, as well as the disruptive attacks mentioned above.

The sudden massive increase in the price of oil is wholly and entirely down to the clueless attacks on Iran by America and Israel.

However, in response to all this, America has eased sanctions on Russia to facilitate them selling oil again. They have sided with a dictator who clearly stated he is aligned with the enemy they have started a war against. They have prioritised the price of oil over the lives of their own combatants, who they have directed into harm's way, and the civilian populations of the gulf states.

For the craic, have a look at flightradar24: all east-west air traffic has to go through two narrow channels - over Georgia and Azerbaijan to avoid the treacherous airspace over Ukraine and Russia to the north and Iran to the south, and then over Saudi Arabia to avoid Iran and Israel to the north and Yemen to the south. If anything unseemly happens to affect the airspace of those three countries, it'll take a long time to unravel the ball of shit.

It has been said before, but whatever Putin has over Trump must be a real fucking doozy.
