Israel have definitely "gone too far" over the subsequent months. Hard to argue that one, either.

How do you get rid of the likes of Hamas? They are so ingrained within Palestine. I mean, I'm not necessarily saying that flattening Palestine and then going after Iran is the answer, but I suppose it's one option. But getting Islamic State out of any position of power in the Middle East can only be of benefit to everyone across the globe, probably most pressingly for the people in Palestine who live under their regime.

Again, I'm not saying this to make excuses for Israel, I'm just curious how else you go about getting a deeply religious death cult out of power when democracy, diplomacy and reason aren't on the table.

The main thing with the Israelis is that they don't see Hamas as a separate entity to the Palestinians. For them it's 2 names for the same thing.

Ariel Sharon and Netanyahu helped Hamas get into power in the first place to undermine the political power of the Palestinian Authority. They knew that, out of the two, Hamas were the group who would more likely go "too far." And they did, regularly. In 2018, when the PA decided to choke Hamas' funding, Netanyahu kept the cash flow to Hamas open, again because he wanted to maintain the group there who would go "too far." All of that is documented by actions and statements from Netanyahu and other ministers, referring to Hamas as an "asset" and the PA as a "burden." My speculation would be that they were also maintaining Hamas until such a time that they tried something that went so "too far" it would "justify" obliteration. The level of "ignored" warnings leading up to October 7th, coupled with the indiscriminate nature of the IDF's attacks when they did eventually come to intervene, both lean towards intent to make sure Oct 7th was as heinous as possible in terms of body count.

Same logic fits with Netanyahu arming a new band of thugs in Gaza, known looters and felons, quite likely associated with Islamic State:

So how do you get groups like that out? First you have to genuinely want to. If that had ever been the case, then Hamas could have been choked out by lack of funds around 2018/2019. The real goal is and, for Netanyahu & Co, always has been to get rid of all Palestinians. It's no secret.
