Inspired by the Polish BM thread idea, I thought of asking what is your take on Brazilian metal (in general) - once a major reference in underground metal which now rarely shows average bands at best.

Sarcófago "I.N.R.I." is the greatest metal album ever made in Brazil and Sepultura was its biggest/best metal band ever, both product of the famous Belo Horizonte scene and Cogumelo Records...that's undisputable. But other than that, I rarely see any other mention of Brazilian bands these days.

Great idea for a thread. Goatpenis are the first band that spring to mind. I avoided listening to them for years because they have one of the worst band names ever. Completely addicted now though.

Sepultura were godlike back in the day. Sarcofago have their own place in metal history.

Go At Penis.

Impurity are fun now and again

Sarcofago I found them unlistenable tbh, remember hearing Mystifier when i was about 16,couldn't get my head around them either.

Sepultura were the only early Brazilian band I really listened to,until taking a punt on Krisiuns Conquerors of Armageddon when it was released.(still rate that one fairly highly)

This. I've never understood their popularity.

   Quality.

Mystifier are amazing, Paul. Give them another shot. Wicca and Goetia are highly recommended.

My knowledge of Brazilian bands is limited enough. Obviously all the bands mentioned and have listened to Holocausto and Vulcano but thats all I can think of. Hit us with a few recs, Diego.

GoatPenis demo and debit album were great, the rest not so much. Evandro was a sound bloke. R.I.P.

Sarcófago was great because of how extreme it was. They weren't great musicians, but INRI is dark and brutal and evil like nothing else at that time.

Mystifier's Goetia is a gem! Much better than Wicca although I like both.

The whole Belo Horizonte 80s scene is worth checking out.

Pentacrostic
Embalmed Souls
Vulturine
mythological cold towers
Nebular Dimension
mutilator's immortal force LP
Chakal
Anthares "No limite da força"
early Amen Corner and Murder Rape were decent
Luvart's debut album.

Just remember are far from being big productions.

I have Evil Shall Burn Inside Me forever by Murder Rape. As I call the nineties stuff was too pricey at the time I was buying it. Must have a dig through that list.

Sepultura were head and shoulders above everyone(not just when talking about the Brazilian scene,to be real).
Vulcano would be just behind them for me.
Holocausto, Mutilator, Chakal were great.
There's too many great bands to mention. Headhunter DC, Mystifier, Attomica.......Splatter from Flesh Grinder is one of the rare Grind releases from the last 30 years I've thoroughly enjoyed. Murder Rape - I've had/listened only to And Evil Returns and don't remember liking it too much. I might have to revisit it.
Escarnium are a kick ass Death Metal. I've enjoyed Grave Desecrator to a certain extent, but less since Elson is not with them anymore.
Bode Preto, Decomposed God, In Torment, Nervochaos, etc, etc, etc......

Bode Preto is actually cool. I also like Pralaya, Poisonous and Trono from the northeast.

Goatpenis were great and only got better as the releases went on. Was suppose to see them live on two different occasions and both times the shows were cancelled.

Evil is another great Brazilian band was also suppose to see them once before but they were denied entry into the US.

Impurity - The lambs fury along with most of the other material is very good.

I really enjoyed the last Mystifier album on SOM which was a surprise because after Goetia things seemed to be getting worse with each release.

Was never crazy about Sarcófago but absolutely love Crust what an EP. I.N.R.I. has to be along with Fallen Angel Of Doom one of the most overrated metal albums of all time. Holocausto are much better than Sarcofago even the recent reunion albums were quality releases.

Digging a few demos here...

I dont like the sound of the drums on this particular recording but I couldnt find the other version online.

I really liked this release, much more interesting than their debut album. Some really simple but well-thought riff ideas...but that intro is a disgrace.
