Surprised to just get a mail Naturmacht Productions where the first words I saw in the preview was "an Gorta Mór" so I was wondering which local band they signed...

Turns out it's actually Olde Throne from Christchurch, New Zealand, which is fair surprising. Only seen the name before. Anyway it might be of interest to people here...

Olde Throne: "an Gorta Mór" single & album announcement!

"an Gorta Mór" is a tribute to the tragedy of the great famine in Ireland from 1845 to 1852. More than 1 million people died from starvation and disease during this period.

The album captures an analog feel, sticking to a simple recipe for honest black metal. There are no intro, interlude or outro tracks on the album, just 7 hard hitting tracks that serve as tales of sorrow from both Irish history as well as Celtic mythology.

Music is not my thing but I dig the cover (albeit the people seem too well dressed compared to usual images!).

I just saw a thing today with a list of the counties/states with the biggest Irish born populations in 1871. New York was number 1 with over half a million. Dublin was 4th, behind NY, Cork and Antrim.

We've a quare history as a people.

Jesus that's some amount for NY. Mad to think of a time when Cork had a larger population than Dublin as well. How did Christchurch NZ compare??  :)

Re quare history, it's always mad to see what armies, navies and wars we ended up in, and on both sides in places!
