Vreid are the only band I keep track of to see what's stirring. So after hints for a few months,
chuffed to discover news released today that the 9th album is due in April:

https://www.season-of-mist.com/release/wild-north-west/

They've continued to develop their sognametal  on each record, but they've a movie to go along with this as part of a bigger project so I hope that doesn't detract from focus on the tunes.

Album title is dodgy, cover is crap, but it has to tie in with their movie I guess. Looks like it's set up for a comic book tie-in or something but the tunes will come through on it surely! Here's hoping, eagerly awaiting it in any event (unlike with bands like Cannibal Corpse rehashing stuff ad nauseam).

Check 'em out in the meantime anyway if you haven't taken a chance previously.

Only have ' Welcome Farewell' and like it, will have to check this one out.  Unusual for Vried to be the only band a head keeps tabs on regarding  new releases?!
Wearing jeans and leather, not crackerjack clothes

Been ages since i gave them a spin, their gig in the Cruiscin  years back was great!

Looking forward to this, they've a pretty consistent back catalogue.  Lifehunger was/is excellent must lash it on actually.

Yeah I'm not too bothered about anyone else really. if I discover afterwards that a band I dig released something, then grand I might check it out.

I find with a lot of bands they have so much out at this stage that I'm not really bothered about hearing more of the same. I'd rather discover a new band altogether and take it from there. Unlike with Vreid, I'm really interested in their next adventure.

Only other instances was checking out on any update on a new Necrophagist album or the long heralded Suffocation DVD, and they're still sore points years later!  >:(

Try out Milorg, I Krieg or Lifehunger for some of their stronger material and greater variety. I was convinced that was Averill was guesting on "Hello Darkness" until the last album actually came out and I discovered otherwise😆

First track out next week for the new one. But as I predicted about the art project being like a comic book, there's a piece of artwork for each track. All ties back to this movie focus I guess, but hopefully it hasn't detracted from the tunes like I said.

Yeah that gig in Cork was the first I ever heard of them, and yet it was a few years before I got around to listening to the CD  I picked up then (I Krieg). Wasted Years indeed.

Not a patch on Windir, middling band in my opinion, although I lost interest after the first couple.

I like some of the Vreid stuff but prefer the Windir stuff also.

Vried and Windir are two different bands really. Never kept up with Vried's new stuff, old stuff is great though.

They are indeed two different bands. Interestingly enough SOM didn't even tag Windir for the pre-release on bandcamp, but did name drop other Norwegians. That's changed now as they found some old Windir keyboard recordings and included in the Into the Mountains track that I'm really digging:

I didn't like Pitch Black Brigade, prefer their later stuff.

Anyway they're airing this new stuff on Thursday evening (see the Covidmania thread). I prefer listening to just the music at the moment as the 4 videos to date are off-putting. Hopefully it will work better when all put together.

SOM posted my LP today so nearly there.

Vreid Norwegian 2nd division football kit surely purchased!

Did you se the Windir boxset Q?
https://shop.season-of-mist.com/windir-the-sognametal-legacy-wood-box

Not for me lads, but Paul would know all about paying an extra €70 for a bit of wood!  ;) Cork City or Bandon Utd should add the Corr Mhona logo to their kit in honour of our local heroes.

Put on I krig for the first time in a few  years, such a good album!.

I only know up to Milrog, must investigate some later stuff.

Primordial v Corr Mhona for the Bandon kit deal!

Watched the Q&A and the movie last night very enjoyable both visually and sonically.

I Krig is brilliant had to give it a spin this morning along side WNW.

Good choice 🤘🏻

I'm looking forward to Vreid and SÓLSTAFIR on Friday, trailer looks interesting:

The ACROSS project is a cinematic experience that brings two unique artists together to share their cultural identities and bridge the sea between the two fjords. Spectacular views of the Storehogen Mountain in VREID's hometown of Sogndal, Norway and of Hellisheiði in SÓLSTAFIR's native Iceland lay the majestic backdrop for this one-of-a-kind, 90-minute long digital streaming event. Each band's signature sound rings through the cavernous expanse, creating a symbiotic musical dialog that can be heard from across the globe.
