After a recent conversation, it got me wondering what are the expectations from local bands in relation to payments for local bills and support slots nowadays? I always figured it was just an honour to get a support slot with bigger band and local gigs were usually just craic and honing skills? Is it standard now asking for say €100 when asked if you want prestigious support slot? Played gigs with Suffocation, Entombed, D.O.D. Fest etc and not a cent, sandwich or beer in return, hugely outta pocket for travel, van hire etc. but didnt care!! All different now?

Are you asking should bands expect to be paid for support slots, or that the band should pay to get the slot?

Not really asking 'should they', but more what are the expectations/standards nowadays from underground bands.Just interested to know is it standard for bands to expect payment for gigs now, regardless of whether its 'local, no punters' or 'lucrative support' kinda show? Kinda question bands or promoters dont wanna answer really🤣

Local gigs in my experience the going rate is 50 euro per band. Local headliner a bit more. When I've supported a larger band it can range from no dosh to 100 euro. All depends on crowd etc.

I know certain promoters that charge upcoming bands to play a support on a big bill. Look if you wanna go that route fine. Not for me though. I just think it's out of order charging a band to play but that's me. If an upcoming band is willing to pay it to get exposure I can see the merit in it.

Wouldn't expect to ever be paid for a juicy support slot, but also certainly would never pay to get one either.

You'll get a kick up the hole and be glad of it
