I bought a double CD live album of these lads years ago off a lad and I couldn't get the buzz at all to the extent I've never heard a single studio recording of them after it.

And I'd seen the name written on so many green canvas schoolbags that I'm surprised I never tried it

A drummer struggling to keep up is the key ingredient for most proper thrash.

In the case of Obsessed it's more the others are trying to keep up with him, which is why it sounds so absolutely feral. Same with Pleasure to Kill and Terrible Certainty actually. I imagine amphetamines were quite popular with German thrash drummers in the mid 80s,and I'm delighted that was the case.

I suppose the key element is that everything has to sound like everything could fall apart at any second. But the drummer is usually the main contributor.

Speaking of absolutely feral....

Sodom would be my favourite of the big 3 German thrash bands. I always viewed them as a thrashier German version of Motorhead. Not heard anything past M16 by them though. Persecution Mania, Agent Orange and Better Off Dead would be the main albums for me.

That whole song sounds like it's falling down the stairs. In a good way
