Burton C Bell gone opera has piqued my interest. I better give it a spin so

 Just on that track, or at least didn't notice them prior to this. I got a Norwegian vibe rather than Burton C Bell but can hear that. I think they work.

Sounds daycent. Yeah, maybe more of a Viking buzz. Burton Seabeard Bell.

yeah, with you on the Norwegian thing for sure, definitely the Arcturus ep buzz but more eh..well just more.

I was thinking how I'd love to see this live but there's so many layers in place they'd need about about three guitarists and a small choir. Wouldn't put it past them though, they dont do things by halves.

Speaking of which, I'd completely forgotten about the video they did for the last album, which is very well done. Would be curious to see something similar for the new one. The dude in the video actually looks like the guy on the cover of the new LP and all

Heard more of an Akercocke vibe in the cleans, but it's all gone a bit Bell-shaped to my ears since reading this

Banger of a record, up their with the best this year for sure.

Getting right into this now having not heard a note of them previously, wasnt expecting to like it as much as I do but I got a real Absu crossed with In The Woods buzz of it early on and it's a stuck with me.

One thing that irks me about this is those fade outs on a couple of tracks, like if you are going to put so much effort into constructing multi layered songs like these why wouldn't you bring them to a close properly instead of these (quite speedy) fade outs?

I like the speedy fade out. Plenty of old black metal songs utilise it to great effect. I get a real fuck you buzz from it, especially when there's another verse of lyrics fading out with it   cruder is gooder.

Never thought of it like that, there's definitely an element of fuck you, like ,right, that's yer lot, we're outta here

Big time. A song ends however it ends as far as I'm concerned. My one complaint at the minute though is the ending of River Runs Red. Such a savage song that just stops with a little roll like, "yeah we'll figure out where to take this song later" and then they ran out of time  ???
