I love Maiden but have always found Bruce cringe, I used to complain about other frontmen saying the same old 'tallica family cliched shite between songs at gigs but then sometimes when Bruce goes on a rant you think perhaps it's for the best.

I think Maiden are still decent live and Bruce can still sing really well (most of the time) but yeah his 2 hour spoken word tour would pretty much be my idea of hell.

Don't listen to podcasts but I'll check that out Burggermeister.....

QuoteI would always have imagined that even if they stopped playing music now they would surely still be set for life money wise

This reminds me of Phil Lynott, wasn't just the money he was maknig for himself but I imagine there's a large amount of crew and management etc that would depend on the two lads getting on well and making the hot coin

Quote from: KingHostile on June 12, 2023, 04:30:13 PMI recall a story (record store in the UK): "This lad came in day after day, the lads were big Iron Maiden fans, this older rocker hated them. He would come in going through older releases, if the conversation turned to Iron Maiden, this older lad slated them. Iron maiden would sell a lot of albums. This lad would comment on all the bad playing and crap guitars sounds and notes...the shock when we seen the new Iron Maiden replacement!!! Janic Gers...... 8 years of slating Maiden and now playing in them!!!"

Does anyone remember the lack lustre Bruce Performances of the early 90s? Hair down not moving and just standing on stage? whatever was going on there, he had to go. I do think he thought he was the band. I love some of his stuff, lyrics and arrangements (I assume) but I doubt he wrote the guitar parts.

The 1992 Donnington Performance is terrible, songs like the Clairvoyant are really not played great. Yet its held as a brilliant performance.

I don't believe that story about Janick, sounds like something made up.

Dickinson was fine on the first half of the FOTD tour, the 92 shows were Maiden's strongest performances for years. When he decided to leave and they did the 93 shows that's when performances went downhill somewhat.

Donington 1992 is a fantastic show, I know it's all down to personal opinion but that is a great performance, infinitely better than the 88 show which is possibly the worst performance of Maiden's career with timing mistakes and bum notes all over the shop and Dickinson really struggling. Only problem is the official Donington 92 album release has the mix all screwed up, rhythm section way too upfront and guitars mixed down. Video mix is fantastic though.

I think Tears of the Dragon is derived from the SiT era stuff he wrote.

Cosmic_Equilibrium - That story above.... may very well not be true, there was way more detail in it at the time, but its a long, long time ago (late 90's). Second hand info etc from a reputable source. Paraphrased and told as was..... Chinese whispers? who knows. If you want to know more about it. PM me and I'll tell you who told me.... he's quite well known.

Donnington 92 - Video mix is fantastic though - Fear of the Dark track is, that was a huge video...... must revisit the rest.

Had Senjutsu in the car all week, on CD....can't handle the 2nd CD at all.

Just thinking of the cover of cosmic equilibrium
