I was on a nostalgia-fest on Spotify there, and threw in 'Folklore' by Cruachán, a really, really shit album we used to laugh at back in the late noughties. Pure shite, embarrassing crap in every department.

To my amazement, the last album, '9 years of war' , the first thing I've heard from them since is a very strong, cultured folk metal album. The thematic content, sure look, grand. Mael Mórdha do this whole thing far better, far heavier and way more evocatively. In fact, the album format and the brief bass solos seem lifted wholesale from the boys in blue.

But credit where it's due, decent, solid album here.

I didn't think they had it in them.

The number of views made me think that this had to be fuckin unreal and surely a sign of some sort. Then it turned out to be "good considering it's Cruachan", and only ok at that.
