Yes! It's excellent and what a vocal performance and drum production on it. Keep forgetting about Seventh Star. Whenever I think of it all that jumps into my mind is yer one from Star Trek The Next Generation that was in the video to No Stranger to Love. Acting must be such a mental career

My faves are
Tyr - Surely one of the best heavy metal albums ever.
Never Say Die - not really massively gone on Ozzy Sabbath on a daily basis, think I got tired of it. PLay this a good bit though, the change in Johnny Blade blows my mind. Swinging the chain is great as well. EDIT forgot about Junior's Eyes, one of my fave sabbath songs ever
Heaven & Hell - first Sabbath album I got, sure it's amazing.
Born Again - What can you say, it's so good. The wooly reverby production I love, the opening scream on Trashed, some of the riffs are incredible.

Think that Paul and Alex are on the same page and they call the shots, think Barrett is prob a bit of a contrarian considering the way he left in 1997 - Lee from Monstrosity mentions that Barrett had a problem with Paul's drumming during the Vile sessions in 96, think he was a bit of a purist maybe. Also an interesting bit I found was Paul discussing Hammer Smashed Face on some podcast, and said they the band split up briefly after Butchered and Birth tour finished, with Alex and Paul decamping for a couple of weeks into a new practise room, where Hammer Smashed Face came about. I'd say it's a bit like Kirk Hammett - keep quiet and we'll let you hang around.

Go on so, I'm surely missing a trick by misunderstanding why they should be so popular. Is there a particular tune that will make me appreciate their non generic chops?

Big ZZ Top fan here - they are weird alright, a song might seem like nothing but you can't shift it out of your head for weeks. Like AC/DC for every great tune there is 10 also-rans. I think my fave era is Deguello (79). Try that - Cheap Sunglasses is great. So cool. They've a lot of great little tunes though. I love the Afterburner album as well, Planet of Women - what a tune
