The last truly good one was A Sun That Never Sets, and this is the best one since then

Still active in a band.
We jam every week, almost without fail. Been in bands on and off since ~1990
I believe that keeping the regular jams is very important, if you let it slide, then it gets easier to make excuses NOT to go jamming.
Also, it's cool to hang out with funny bastards once a week.

87-95 I think.
It started with Thin Lizzy & GnR (didn't go the Iron Maiden route) before expanding quickly to the big 4.
Then it was a short hop to Sepultura -> Obituary, Death, & Morbid Angel.
Everything went to shit in the late 90s.
Then when the internet really took off after 2000, I discovered all the cool stuff out there, and finally got to grips with BM (before that I thought it was shite)

I think the peak moment was seeing both Holy Wars and Thunderstruck on the same episode of the Beat Box with Simon Young in 1990. They were quickly recorded on to VHS and worn out over time. They were eventually overwritten by an episode of Home & Away, I still haven't forgiven my younger brother.

Band is called Scimitar from Denmark. Female vox, mixes BM with classic metal and occult rock. I found the song writing very good

Thanks to everyone who came out, especially the CBMM!
We're putting the heads down now, and getting ready for the final push before recording an album in the new year

Quote from: Thanatos on October 30, 2025, 11:47:34 AMHas anyone mentioned the spectacularly awful Crematory yet? Been going since the very early 90's and have spat out an almost relentless spew of absolute rubbish to this day. They're like all the worst shite you'd see in those old late 90's Nuclear Blast catalogs rolled into one massive cringe inducing package.
I recall reading an article a good few years ago where they were whinging about online piracy, streaming and the likes and how they were threatening to break up if nobody bought their new album.
They're still on the go so there must be people still buying this shite to a level where they can keep going?
I asked a German friend recently if he had any insights into who the culprits are. The only suggestion he could put forward was "Overweight middle aged goths who rarely leave the house?"

They must be one of the most useless, irredeemably shite bands to ever exist?

Just listened to Crematory there. I turned it off after 2 minutes and 21 seconds

To my mind they've one track. I've four of their albums here and they're all shit.

Don't get me started on Hypocrisy, a laughably terrible band, so boring and no riffs.
Vader are up there too, not a single riff is memorable

Quote from: Anvil on August 10, 2025, 08:18:32 AMEnslaved - Below the Lights.  My most listened to and favourite Enslaved album... I actually think it is pure genius which is definitely not the norm.

Yeah that's my favourite too.  Is it generally not liked?  I never knew that and always thought it was fairly highly rated in their catalog.

I remember it getting a poor reception when it was released and people not liking the proggy direction.  I've always felt that the earlier Enslaved was held in higher regard, especially on this and the old board but maybe I am wrong.

Another one for me would be Sons of Northern Darkness by Immortal.  It would be my go to album if theirs.
Yeah, I always thought the consensus was that BTL was their best album, or definitely top 3 for them
