Blue (1993)

One of the last films directed by the Derek Jarman before his death from AIDS, this is a film of many things: a tribute to Warhol, a political movie, a psychedelic movie, a movie of anger and a movie of acceptance. As Jarman was partially blind at the time of making it (described vividly in the narration), the choice of a blue screen forces us to pay attention to the dialogue. Heartbreaking and life affirming, could such a film be made today? I'm not sure.

Quote from: Blitzer666 on February 24, 2025, 01:20:49 PMWise up. U are actually comparing Ireland to Gaza?? Don't forget it was IRA murdered most of their own Catholic people. Bit different ain't it?

That's if you include IRA members blown up by their own bombs, killed as informers and Official IRA/IPLO members. Take them out and the number drops dramatically. Regardless, loyalist paramilitaries killed far more Catholics.

Anyway, it's amazing how far Megadeth have dropped in status. They played the Point twice (91 and 92) and the 3Arena in 2015 (although that was with Lamb of God and Children of Bodom as support) and namechecked in The Van. While never as big as Metallica, they did have a mainstream cache that the likes of Slayer didn't have. And yet Slayer became the bigger draw over time whereas Dave and co. slowly slipped down the festival billings. I even recall Feeder (yes, the Welsh band) headlining Download with Megadeth below Garbage and Dinosaur Jr.

Disturbed were and always will be shite.

FACS - Wish Defence

One of my favourite bands of the last decade (alongside The Body, Uniform and Bad Breeding), they keep putting out killer post-punk and I love it.

USA/Mexico - Live in Paris

Would have preferred a new studio album but this is mighty listening. King Coffey is such a drummer.

He's got a split release with Shane Embury coming out soon so I imagine the show will be exclusively experimental/noise material.

New album due out in March. I loved the EP they put out last year and the two songs they've released for this record have been killer.
