Metal Discussion / Re: Recent purchases

Bought a CD copy of "Where Blood And Fire Bring Rest" by Zao on eBay.

It transpired that the bastard had just burned it onto a CD-R and had printed the cover out on shitty printer paper. Typed out the tracklist himself, misspelling some of the song names in the process.

He refunded me after I put him on blast and luckily found a real copy.

Does anyone know if any of the CD editions of "Tales of Othertime" by Stormkeep have the little map insert, or is that just in the LP?

This month's purchases after not buying CDs for a decade:

Benümb - "By Means of Upheaval"
Diocletian - "Gesundrian"

That's a strange way to interpret it, it was more to illustrate the impact they had on me a long time ago to the extent that I'd yap about them to a completely new person.

Quote from: Gmajor1991 on October 16, 2024, 09:25:47 PMI'm absolutely delighted. Back in 2010 there was a girl cuddling up to me at a house party but when I started talking about WTKSP, she got her friend to escort her home straight away. They've since gotten really popular with zoomers, doubt they'd have been booked for Sick New World otherwise.

Down, Soilent Green, Crowbar, Goatwhore and EHG have been here over the years and have gotten great responses (except for Soilent who played to 30 people). If they played in London I'd absolutely fly over but feck paying thousands to watch a festival set in a car park.

Are you boasting about the time you didn't get your hole? Strange.

Has there been criticism about his playing?

Quote from: Sworntothecans on June 12, 2024, 11:15:38 AMZakk Wylde aside it's been nothing but good reports overall. There'll be some amount of dickheads at it but thats the case with the majority of gigs.
I don't think teenage me would forgive me for missing Pantera😂

Which Batushka lineup is this?

I still regret not bothering to see Morbid Angel with David Vincent a decade ago so will absolutely head along to this. Don't think I've been to a metal show in six years.

Do they usually play "Accuser/Opposer" with Alan Averill here, or was that just once or twice?

Ah balls, sold out. If anyone is flogging two tickets I'll happily purchase them.

Quote from: open face surgery on August 18, 2023, 12:40:43 PMBizarre. Is that place not tiny? Did EHG not sell out The Academy on previous visits?
Pahahaha not a chance, saw them there in 2010 and there were about 80 people on the audience.

That was just unbelievable. My jaw was hanging for the first couple of songs (rituals?).

The only detractor was the prick in front of me holding up his phone to video parts of a couple of minutes at a time, with the brightness turned up. Personally I don't mind a couple of sneaky subtle photos or a few seconds of footage for the 'gram (I'm guilty of it myself), but people who have the gall to ignore multiple people asking them to put it away deserve to be incarcerated and have their children put in a home.

Tickets available on door?

The former. I get plenty of info from Instagram and from this site. Still really appreciate people like Dom Lawson who offer directions towards stuff worth checking out.

Are you looking for a source for journalism or a source for information? If it's only the latter, then you are where I happen to get 80% of my metal information from. The rest of it I get from a handful of friends and the fact that certain algorithms (YouTube, Twitter, etc.) have learnt that I'm responsive to metal stuff.

As for good actual journalism about metal, I have no idea.

This is a very good point. I had a much better idea of what was going on when all you had to rely on were magazines and the "Thank You" sections of liner notes.

I don't really bother anymore. Bands are just spewing out stuff each and every day about every aspect of their professional and sometimes personal lives that there's not a lot of interesting stuff left to report on. The mystery has long gone. It's complete information overload.

Now that Terorrizer is long gone, and Kim Kelly just tweets about human rights and feminism issues (power to her, I just miss her metal coverage), where do you all look to keep up with what's happening in the realm of new music reviews, concert reviews, upcoming news etc?

I hadn't heard until a moment ago that Converge had a new album out last year.
