Metal Discussion / Re: Controversial Metal Opinions
July 22, 2024, 12:16:41 PM
I was 15 back in 1992 when I first heard Deicide and Legion, and remember thinking should I really be listening to this? It was a total step up from Slayer singing about Satanism etc and these guys actually meaning it, total unease. But loved both albums, the demonic screams and growls and the frantic, menacing riffs. I remember reading a review of Legion in Kerrang or MH at the time, and they basically admitted that for Legion they were basically competing with each other to see who could play the fastest, kinda shows alright, ha. Both are my fav Deicide albums, don't think any band ever fully achieved that same evil, malevolent sound since...

Looking forward to this one...

Quote from: Count Magnus on June 25, 2024, 09:28:06 PMThis beautiful fucker of a riff just started playing in my head.  :abbath:

Quote from: The Wretch on June 25, 2024, 09:31:38 PMObviously you can't go far wrong with Gaz Jennings.

The riff that comes in around 6.13 is easily one of the heaviest, and best ever committed to tape.

The ending riff of this'un.

Some crackers with Death Penalty, Septic Tank, the first Lucifer album, and who could forget this wee nugget -

"Goddess" by Acid Reign! Man, I haven't heard that tune since I was 15 years old (32 years ago!)! Thank you so much for posting that, I totally had forgotten about it, loved it way back then. Then Death and Black metal took over. Weird how some tunes can just fade away from memory...happy days...

Babyteeth is my fav record ever, full stop. The visceral rage, dancy rhythms, the use of samples, just shit cool. Nothing else sounds like it...

Great gig, enjoyed all 3 bands, Mortiferum the winners for me, crushing set. Baffles me though how some heads prefer watching the gig through their phones, just enjoy and be in the moment like...

Righteous Pigs - Stress Related.

Never really see these guys get much love, but it's a hot frantic mess of grind/death. Fun stuff, always come back to it. Mitch Harris's band before joining Napalm Death...

Godflesh - Streetcleaner
Big Black - Songs about Fucking

"Attack of the Killer B's" was the first record I ever owned on vinyl, played it to death when it first came out so I guess they're always a nostalgic band for me, but they had some great tunes from their 80s output for sure, always fun and creative plus noble links with Nuclear Assault and S.O.D. Granted, I did lose interest during the Bush era...

Dark Angel - Darkness Descends. Album title says it all.
Exhorder - Slaughter in the Vatican. Dripping with riffs, filth and groove,  criminally underrated always.
Nuclear Assault - anything. Was my gateway band into metal.
